Hair Salon recommendation

Recommended Posts

At the risk of starting a controversy, I would like a recommendation for a hair salon which does good color work.  I am growing my hair and would like some shaping (not lopping) as well as some good advice on highlights, lowlights and dealing with over processing as the ends get longer.  I know everyone has a favorite stylist, and I have conducted a search of past posts, but a lot of the info is two or more years old, and things change over time.

Thanks for relaying positive experiences you have had with local stylists who you think might work for me.

I've been going to Christine for two years, and she always does a great job of colour and cut.  And the women that she has working for her do fabulous pedicures and manicures as well!  She has a Facebook page for Christine's Salon, but it wouldn't let me post the link here.  She is located in the Centro Laguna mall, beside the casino.

Jim at Glorioso's next to Tio Sam's. The best with color and cuts. I honestly wouldn't go to anyone else.

I only went to Jim once and he wouldn't cut my hair the way I wanted and he sent me home with a stain of dye on the side of  my forehead which was 3/4 of an inch in diameter and which he had to have seen, but the day had run late and he just wanted to close.  700p for that, if I remember correctly.  Now I go to Gloria at New Look Salon.

Dario on West Ocampo in Ajijic. I went elsewhere a couple of times to save some pesos and, boy, was that ever a mistake!!! So back to Dario I went. For my fine, curly hair, he gives me an excellent cut and probably the best color and highlights I've ever had in twenty five years of coloring my hair. Esmeralda and Monica work with him doing shampoos and color on roots, both very nice ladies. 766-4908

Dana does quality work at a skill level that in the States would easily cost you ten times what he charges.  I'm talking "high end" for both the cut and color.  He's also very personable and a pleasure to chat with.

Do not go to the salon in west Ajijic on the Carretera close to Rio Bravo. (Forgot the name)

I don't enjoy speaking badly of businesses but I want to warn others about how the guy completely destroyed my hair when he was lightening it.

I had to cut it all off (I started with very healthy long hair to my waist) because he didn't know how to lighten properly. I warned him I didn't want to kill my hair before and I wanted nothing drastic. Guess that didn't work.

Also the damage was instant and when I told him to fix it he wanted to charge me for more money to "correct" it.

I have been going to Angel's salon for awhile and I find him to be a very talented guy who listens and works with what you want.

I'm glad you have had good results with Angel. I tried him for seven or eight months, but then needed to make a change.
