cultural enrichment? you can view "blood rituals" world wide on youtube. these are not our western values, IMO. kumbaya is not the way to go. then again, its your choice.

Maybe save yourself some time, and gain some prior understanding, by reading James Michener's book "Mexico". This is not about "torturing" bulls, it is about something very deep, and a little bit dark, running throughout Latino culture. A poetry of life, death and redemption.

Yes, I read it years ago. It explains what it means to the bullfighters, and those who enjoy watching blood "sport", but when they talked about the bull being "brave"- that is anthropomorphism- the bull is being attacked and fighting for its life. It has no choice. All the rest around the culture of bullfighting is human macho construct.

And consider the reciprocation that takes place within these cultures like the running of the bulls in Pampalona, though not completely equitable, shows a profound respect in giving the bull a chance at the much weaker man.  These are rituals steeped in profound ancient psychological archetypes.

What do "western values" have to do with anything here?  Are you referring to "values" from a society that is not even 3 centuries old and will no longer be around in another 3?  Of what consequence is that in the face of rituals that have lasted millennia?  Please.........you mean western hypocrisy.

It's fine if it's not your cup of tea, that's to be respected but you should reserve judgement on things that are not totally understood.  And consider your self-righteous stances the next time you enjoy your weekend barbecue.  Lots of suffering and torture between stock yards and slaughter house.  At least the practitioners of these rituals take a moral responsibility for their actions which often results in the loss of their lives.  While how the steak got to your plate hardly elicits a second thought!  Please, don't insult with "western values".................
