tomgates
Interesting that I summoned Uber at the Guadalajara airport and they estimated the fare at between $415 and $525 versus $420 for the taxi. This was early afternoon.
Mostlylost
I paid under $150 from airport to Ajijic. At this moment the estimate for an Uber X from airport to Ajijic Tango is $172 - $228. An Uber Black which is a luxury car is $443-$581. I personally am fine with a Uber X which is 99% of the time bigger, nicer, and cleaner than a taxi.
CHILLIN
Again back to 1974 - don't worry I won't dwell too much on this! The Taxis in Puerto Vallarta, old 60's U.S. cars, seats all patched up with some sort of tape. Apparently car parts were very expensive from the U.S. - taxis removed their windshield wipers otherwise they would be stolen. In the night time drives from old Vallarta to Garza Blanca, actually a carretera, even today, whoever switched their headlights on first had right of way. Ah - Viva Mexico! Americans taught the world how to get rich, Mexico teaches how to be happy with what you got, and no matter how rich or poor, a loving family circle is the greatest gold. tomgates
I took a taxi as it was cheaper than the Uber estimate at the time.

At the price you quoted in your original post, I'd say they were quoting for an Uber Black ride.
Mostlylost
For sure a black quote. X sedans are taxi size.
TooMuchCoffee
I'll be arriving at GDL from Portland in about 2 weeks and want to give Uber a try for my trip to Ajijic. So, how do I hail an Uber cab at the airport using my smart phone which is not tied to any Mexican wireless carrier? Wifi?
CHILLIN
There is a new Uber player coming to Lakeside. They are a part of a group specializing as medical facilitators, taking people to specialist appointments in Guadalajara/Jocotepec, in home medical services, etc. They will be anchored Lakeside. This is very good thing because they are not doing this as a business opportunity, but because they really do care. More details as they emerge. RVGRINGO
From the airport, it could be difficult. The airport taxis have a franchise for their exclusive use & measures are taken to keep others out. You can buy a taxi ticket inside the terminal for your destinatiion; Ajijic. The price is fixed. At the curb, you will be placed in the taxi and sent on your way. No tipping is required, but if the driver takes your luggage inside at your destination you might give a tip for the extra service. When you wish to return to the airport, you could try Uber, as dropping off a passenger by anyone is OK.
Mainecoons
Not at all. Have friends and a college student from Oaxaca we're helping out who use it from the airport all the time.. They are advised as to what the vehicle looks like and the vehicle is advised as to what the passenger looks like. The Uber picks them up along the curb just like we would. Thanks to the taxistas, we have no bus service to and from the airport even though the Chapala buses all drive right by it. At least Uber gives us an alternative. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we even had Uber here when you lived here RV.
