dichosalocura
Has anybody tried growing vanilla orchids here to harvest the beans? I read that they require really warm and humid conditions to grow properly. If anybody has been successful in growing them here, which vivero or nursery would most likely carry them. Thanks! Semalu
They grow well in protected (ie: the warmer) parts of your garden with the right light. Our weather can get a bit nippy for vanilla orchids so if it dips around zero in winter, be kind and give it a blanket. The vanilla will tell you what works for it by how quickly it grows. You can self pollinate the flowers to get beans. Google it. There are videos on Youtube.
bmh
You have to hand polinate vanilla orquids and since mine are growing on an avocado tree on a Wall and on a plumeria it would be tought to find a blanket large enough, it is live or die in my garden..no blanket for the vanilla..
