Shaw TV versus Wicked Entertainment

My neighbor met an expat who is selling the TV streaming service called Wicked Entertainment. He said that Shaw has moved its satellite or sat receiver and will no longer be available in Mexico. Do any of you know anything about Shaw leaving the area or about Wicked Entertainment? Please share.

That's a flat-out bogus statement. (Since the name "Wicked" is closely associated with the porn industry, your guy seems to be both lieing and stealing at the same time.)

There are basically three Shaw satellites; the newest one does not cover our area, but the other two are in it for the long haul. Older home receivers can only get the first two satellites. But as far as I can tell, the channels that the third bird provides aren't worth it anyway... . By the time the first two sats are replaced and the signal coverage changes too, we probably all will be using other forms of techology anyway to get our "TV" (like the stuff this guy is selling).

I agree.  There is a huge difference between internet based streaming TV applications and satellite TV.  Like trying to compare apples and oranges - they are for two totally different purposes.  Satellite TV is for people who do not have sufficient internet availability, reliability or bandwidth (like many of us here).  It is also the best way to get and view live TV broadcasts and pushing the buttons on a remote to channel surf is just so much easier than "surfing" for news, specific sports broadcasts, etc. for many of us "old folks".

Shaw Direct TV (with over 900,000 subscribers) will likely be fine here until such time as the Anik F1R and F2 satellites are no longer up in the sky.  The "third" bird that Shaw uses, the Anik G1, is a newer generation satellite that broadcasts its Shaw programming on a higher frequency band to a much smaller geographic footprint over Canada only.  Almost all of the channels on it are duplicates of what we can get here so you aren't missing much.

Three sats for Shaw.  Two old ones that everybody gets to Belize.  Last new sat only goes south to SF California.  When two old birds run out of fuel than we will be shut off of Shaw due to a lack of signal.  Everything will be fine for a few years more.  When the sats go dark we hope for fast internet speeds to be available  (my Mom has 150 down in Seattle) and we will watch TV over the Internet.  Your other choices are  over the air from Guadalajara, Mexico Dish sat network (not same as US), Sky sat network, and our local lovely cable company which is cheap and has some US and English (SAP) stations but it seems it is in the process of self destruction due to mergers in the Mexican cable industry. Sat pictures look better than local cable pictures at least the analog service.  Run from this person as he/she is either ignorant or lies either one is enough.  Everyone here is giving you correct advice.  Shaw is a good product for us especially if you are new.  Life without HD  PBS for us is unthinkable.

Personally, I have nothing against using these "TV boxes"; there are lots of legitimate services. And lots of people here are using the Android "no fees" boxes; the legalities will eventually work themselves out. In this case, I object to Wicked's statement--that the satellites are being pulled--as a shoddy sales trick.

By the way, the new satellite Shaw uses has a footprint that basically runs to the southern edge of Canada.

Interesting ad in the Point South August Real Estate Guide.

El Mundo en su TV is offering an internet streaming device that allows almost all TV channels in the world (over 100 from USA)

Go to www.elmundoensutv.com

They are out of Puerto Vallarta and are looking for franchisees  and they also offer volume discounts starting at 10 units.

The price in the ad is $1800 pesos.  The prices on the website are $100 USD.

2 GREAT BIG "ifs" here!

The first is "if" you can handle the inconveniencee of the streaming box as opposed to satellite TV

The second "if" is these boxes are available for under $40 and the programming is free "if" you can do it.

It's simple enough, but for too many its not.

If you can't handle these "ifs" stick with your satellite service.

i use kodi/ android box all the time. 5 mbs down. very little problem. all uk. usa/ canada chanels available for free. no need to pay.

maybe not quite as convenient as satellite but you can save a fortune.

good quality android box for less than 100usd. try mercado libre or amazon mexico.

some have kodi installed if not easy to do.  youtube and has all info.

Question. I know a good internet connection as slow as 5 mbs down works well with a standard definition feed. However I was told, but do not know that you need more like 10 mbs down if you want to upgrade from standard definition to HD.

I would love to learn what speed most of you believe one needs to get a good HD feed on a large screen LED HDTV

Thanks in Advance for your input.

seems to depend more on the download server as regards quality. with my 5mbs i can watch  films of 720 hd no problem on my tv..,but with live sports it does buffer depending on the addon. however i believe some paid services such as sportsmania have no buffering problems.

i still manage ok with free addons  but just takes time getting best link..dont think screen size matters . your box needs to be uptodate . some offer 4k but will need very high download for that..

outwith kodi try showbox or popcorn for films. you can normally choose resolution. in kodi there are hundreds of choices. just a matter of finding the best for you. exodus and specto seem good at the moment. njm soccer is usually good for hd footy and zem tv , then pakitv link good hd today for cricket.
