Just a cautionary tale.  We just found out a distant relative passed away last month NOB.  She was a recluse without any regularly scheduled activities.  The landlord became concerned because her rent was over due and asked the local sheriff to look in on her.  They found she had had a heart attack and passed away several weeks earlier.  By the time they found her, only 1 her 5 pets remained alive.  Please, if you know any one that lives alone, set up a time to check in on them on a regular basis.

Oh my gosh, that is so sad. Both for your relative who seemed to have no one that cared and also for her pets who were the only ones who cared. A reminder for everyone with pets to also make arrangements for them incase of your death. Not fair to your loving pets to be left alone or to possibly be put in a shelter that is probably full and cannot take them.

A few years ago a local Notary came to the Lake Chapala Society and advised everyone to write a

"Letter of Intent" and leave with their will showing instructions for the care of pets when they died.

If someone has a "Panic Button" that they can activate for 24/7 help when they feel ill,  friends and emergency services would be only minutes away, they would not die alone and not found for 5 weeks. Local Doctors can be asked about this and they can be purchased at SmartHomeInc. in the Centro Laguna Mall. Phone #766-4305.

Such a sad story, and this has happened here also in the past in the Lake area.
