pappysmarket
As long as there is no cartel activity up there should be no problems. There has never been any, correct?

There has never been any, correct? No cartel activity in the Lake Chapala area? I walked by at least two narcos here in Ajijic just today. One, a newer guy, even introduced himself to me. They may be quiet, but they're everywhere, man.
ComputerGuy
I'm seriously curious: can you tell me how to recognize a "narco", please, and where they hang out in such a fashion that you know this?

Mainecoons
Of course there are narcos here, they sell to the stupid and irresponsible gringos who use dope. We know of some of them. Having anything to do with these drug pushers is a great way to end up dead. Keep that in mind, druggies.
mexpat06
I am always surprised at the OMG reactions of people to cartel activity near to us here and far from us. It has nothing to do with you and unless you are walking on the edge of respectability you will never come into contact with it let alone be a victim. Do you recall the Mob activity in the US thru the 50s, 60 and 70s. And the "Mob Wars" all over the US. Everybody knew who was what and where to stay away from and why. This cartel fighting is exactly the same thing. They don't want you caught in it any more than you want to be caught in it. I don't know any gringos who buy dope on the street most of them grow their own. Since we don't smoke it we dont' care who does what with it. Sounds like the classic definition of pornography, "I can't define it but I know it when I see it." Remember that one?
ComputerGuy
Oh, come on. Use of the word narco puts the person pointed to as being a member of a cartel. We do have cartel members around, but the drug dealers you see on the streets are being threatened by those gangs to push for them and sell their dope. They're not in the gangs. And the ones that are, you wouldn't know.
pappysmarket
Jaja, yes I was trying to agree with you, not the other way around.
El Saltos
The drug and crime gangs in Mexico do not fit the definition of "cartels." They're simply big gangs of criminals. The simple fact that they fight over territory is proof that they're not cartels.

cedros
I was eating in a local Mexican Chapala restaurant yesterday morning when two burly guys in regular clothes came in. Both were packing pistols. I asked who they were and they said they were special police looking for narcos.
