Requirements for Seguro Popular

Yo, you did not ask a question. You made a blanket statement that was incorrect. You were then corrected. Next you chose to ask a question that does not have a simple answer and is totally unrelated to your previous incorrect statement. Now you are demanding that your questions be answered or she should follow your orders and state something that is not true to salvage your wounded ego. Frankly, I'm not that crazy about your attitude to her, either. An attack like that warrants an apology from you, not an answer to your demands from her because, unlike yourself, Sonia is trying to provide helpful information to us.

My, we are a reactive bunch. You do recall I said there was no need to reply to my post?

A tourist with a life threatening emergency can go to the emergency at any Seguro Popular hospital for treatment without any residency documents. They will sign people up without the proper documents for 90 days as an emergency case only. I don´t know how much they will be charged for this service.

Thanks, Alan, I very much appreciate this useful information and especially stated without judgment and inflamatory words.  Do you know if a person without legal residency can go to a SG hospital and get care and pay fees for it? Do you know where to find such a schedule of fees?  Thanks again, friend.

Funny, isn‘t it, that folks who cannot read Spanish continue to insist on “documentation“, in English, for procedures in Mexico, where Spanish is the official language. It is also funny that most of them seem more comfortable, except financially, in the USA, which does not have an official language, but where Spanish must be provided by treaty; and they complain about that too!

There is a moratorium on payments in Jalisco for signing up so we have been getting people 3 year policies for free.  When the surgery comes usually the person has to pay for the parts so if you break your hip and need surgery to place titanium screws then you pay for the screws.

Ambulance takes you to Red Cross or Cruz Verde where they call in and get an authorization for you to be taken to the SP hospital, that is my understanding.

I have been asking the same question time after time and with multiple posts.  She does not answer my question nor does she admit that she doesn't know.  She makes herself out to be an expert and yet can't answer a question that may be on others minds as well as mine.  I'm asking for Mexican friends of mine who are younger than myself.

I will not apologize for asking questions.  It took a long time to get her to admit that there is a charge to signup for SP.  She has evaded that question before but now we have an answer.  Now I'd like an answer to how much does one have to pay for medical services.  If she knows--fine.  If she doesn't know--then tell us.  If her agenda here is to provide helpful information, as you say, I'm all ears.  Sonia tends to evade questions here as she has done with nationalizing vehicles.

My ego is not tied up in this issue.  Good heavens, what are you thinking?  And frankly, I don't care whether you personally like my attitude or not, Al.  Just trying to get answers for friends so they have some idea what they are looking at for finances.

No they can´t. You must have legal residency to join. Only in a life threatening emergency situation can you go to a SP emergency room and get taken care of. I believe they sign you up for 90 days with no documentation for life threatening emergencies and it is free of charge or it used to be.

Apparently the 90 day sign up without documentation is good for any sickness, not only life threatening emegrencies as I stated above.

Also they will see people who are from other socaiized medicine systems or possibly no medical insurance in remote aeas where there are no other clincs excpet the Centro de Salud clinic [Seguro Popular] for a consultation fee of $70.00 pesos. We did that in Punta de Mita when a palapa restaurant poisioned us with a filet de pescado a few years ago. It cost $65.00 pesos then and the Dr. gave use prescription to fill and an antibiotic shot for a small charge and we belong to the ISSSTE federal employees medical system.

You definately can´t get a 3 year contract for normal medical care without being a legal resident of Mexico with proof at the Seguro Popular.

They do have a policy to never turn anyone away when sick though.

Membership in the SP is free or a yearly fee per family based only on the head of household. The services they supply are free of charge for members. In the case Intercasa mentioned they ask you to pay for titanium srews, not for anything related to the diagnosis or treatment. In the case of installing or replacing a pacemaker they have one model available for free. If you want to have a better model installed or replaced you buy it and they do the work at no charge. MRIs , lab work, X-rays, physical therapy, drugs, hospitalization and other common services are at no charge. If they don´t have a drug available you pay for it at a pharmacy. They do have one model of  prosthetic knee but if you want a better model you buy it and they do the work for free. There is a sign in the SP hospital here stating all sevices are free of charge and if anyone asks for a fee report it to the administration office.

Some services have charges, someone I know paid 1,000 pesos for an endoscopy.  Sure they could have waited weeks or months and had no charge but then they could be dead or the problem would have gone away.

My wife went to a private specialist and a private hospital for one last year and it cost her $14,000 pesos but could have had it done at the ISSSTE for free in 2 months or so. If it is diagnosed as life threatening the ISSSTE would do it right away but the specialst would have to be seen immediately instead of many weeks of waiting to get an appointment. I have been many times this last 1 1/2 years to a urologists at the hospital where the specialists are where patients have been brought in from the emergency room and he diagnoses them right away but presume these patients needed immediate care, tests, hospitalization, and treatment or drugs.

Yo1,

It appears that the system of questions is a hierarchical arrangement, where the answer to one question determines the next question, etc., eventually leading to a conclusion regarding the fee; if any.  As such: “se depende....“

hierarchical |ˌhī(ə)ˈrärkikəl|
adjective
of the nature of a hierarchy; arranged in order of rank: the hierarchical bureaucracy of a local authority.
DERIVATIVES
hierarchically adverb

And your point is ???????? RV

I have asked Sonia in several different posts these same questions.  It took her a lot of time ( like a couple of weeks) to answer that SP charges some folks to sign up.  I now would like to know how charges for services are determined.  Either she knows or she doesn't.

You seem to still be missing the point....se depende....it depends upon the answers that any particular individual gives and there are many variables involved; even whether or not you have a tile floor or a dirt floor, a refrigerator, or none, etc.

So, there is no concise answer to be given in advance of your friend going in and having the interview; answering the questions herself and getting her personalized answer based upon her responses.  A heirarchical system can have many branches resulting in many possible answers for many different personal situations. One size does not fit all.

Nice that some get it. Others have a problem understanding what you describe and Alan and I have been describing. I could use the word "matrix" but doubt that would be understood especially when one does not want to understand it or is incapable.

In all the SP offices I have been in the computer generates the Decil based on answers and therefore the cost but I noted that well back in referring to my web site. The Decil can also generate what a patient pays for parts etc. We are Decil 4 and my husband saw orthopedic specials and had XRays for free and if surgery he would have paid for "parts" as others mentioned.

oh well lol

Thanks for finally giving an answer that doesn't beat around the bush.  And thanks for thinking that I'm not very intelligent.

I gave it several times as did Alan, RV and as also per my web. si el zapato calza; póntelo

saludos

At the new Community and SP hospital in Joco,  the charge for renting the laparoscopic machine for gallbladder surgery is $4500 pesos and well worth it to recover in less than 2 weeks vs. more than a month with regular surgery.

Joco do you know if this hospital is purely an SP member-only hospital or can one who is not a member of SP get served there on a fee payment basis?

No one (Mexican or foreign) seems to know the real answer to your question and to similar ones like it unfortunately. Quite Mexican.
