J.Miller
I am going to begin chemo treatments soon and I would like to know if there is a clinic, preferably in Jocotepec, that will administer my chemo which would be so much easier than trips to Guadalajara. paradise
I would suggest you make the trip to guadalajara to be taken care by a facility that does these treatments daily and have the proper personal
geeser
I have taken two different people to Guad for weekly chemo or radiation. both were Mexicans so I believe they would know if it was available locally.
Earl
Dr Leon does it. I think he puts you on a bed in one of his apartments that are above his office. You can easily have someone stay with your during the hours you are having chemo. I think there is a tv in the room, too. That beats driving to Guad any day in my book! kbleitch
There are many types of cancer and even more varieties of chemotherapy combinations and protocols. Given the severe reaction our 29 year old son had to his first chemo treatment using the RCHOP protocol four years ago for diffuse large B cell lymphoma, I myself would want to have chemo administered in a facility that could quickly deal with anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps one day we will have that type of a facility Lakeside.
bezerk
I highly suggest until larger facilities with more personnel able to handle severe emergencies that you go to Guadalajara for your chemotherapy. I did so, thankfully as I had a severe reaction to one and almost died, thus without, ER care and drugs the consequences could be devasting. I am sure at some point in time, manana,we will have the facilities for such here at Lakeside but for now..it is specialized care requiring specially trained nurses to administer and ER equipment not available Lakeside. Yo1
J. Miller, is it your intention to have a local doctor decide on the drugs you need and administer them locally? I don't believe there are any oncologists practicing locally. Many chemo drugs are so toxic that the nurses have to wear special face masks when they are mixing the drugs. And not just any old doc has the knowledge to administer them. Not even Leon.

bezerk
I forgot to even wish you good luck, so thus am posting that now..good luck with chemo..and please rest as much as you can..:) Keep remembering to just breathe...that is all you have to do while getting chemo..nuf said. You may want to check into getting a PORT put in for access as opposed to destroying your veins. Pink Hugs
J.Miller
Thank you everyone for advice and suggestions. My biopsies are currently being tested to determine a specific cocktail for me and it looks like it will be administered in the hospital beside Wal-Mart (I still don't know the name of the hospital) which is an easy drive for us; I just hope it isn't a daily trek but whatever is necessary I will do! I will ask about a port as many have suggested; it sounds like a good idea.

bezerk
Most likely chemo will NOT be a daily thing...as opposed to radiation which is. A port can be kept in as long as 10 years..I kept mine for 5. I hope you have a chemo or cancer specialist and ?? insurance?? Again best wishes...feel free to PM me anytime if you need someone to vent to..
J.Miller
Thank you Lexy; I know it is only a matter of time to return to perfect health!. And thank you Bezerk for the information and the offer to chat; I do have a specialist, a few in fact as I am just going through a lot of preliminary testing, scans etc.. hensley
Wherever you decide to have the treatment they usually have short term apartments nearby that you can rent on a weekly basis, they are basic but know of a couple of friends that did this, so it was not so tiring driving back and forth, you can even take your pets to some of them. paradise
As i said, its better to go into a facility in gdl that does these procedures daily and weekly with properly trained technicians and in environement where things are regulated

Sorry, Gringal, I stand by my "suggestion" with good reason, and others share my point of view, with good reason. As you know, we can't say negative things in detail and I avoided doing that. But if I can warn anyone to be careful of certain medical professionals, I will. And I did. Lexy

Lexy I say that's skating pretty close to the "libel" line and saying "others share my point of view, with good reason" is in the same vague accusative nature. Someone trashed a local opthamologist by citing particular problems created by his treatment. That was specific. Your generalizations are clearly intended to damage a popular local physician without citing specific reasons why. What's your reason? BTW, he has been our family doctor for over 8 years. He's not 100% perfect in his initial diagnoses, but he keeps working at it until the problems are solved. I also appreciate the fact that he cares enough to make house calls when needed. His office isn't the Mayo clinic, but whose is?
Lexy
Gringal--Considering that I told you some of the details recently of our experiences with Dr. Leon--and you didn't question them then in our very personal exchanges--I'm shocked that you're bringing this up on this forum here. It's like a slap in the face. As if I'm a quack trying to "damage a popular local physician without citing specific reasons why." You know very well we can't be specific, except in personal messages. How did you miss that point? Who cares how popular a bad doctor is? I know now; others don't know yet. But others suffered at his hands, too, as I now well know. How do you dare say I'm just trying to damage a doctor's good reputation. He has a very controversial reputation. My husband and I were patients of Dr. Leon for years, just like you and your husband. Only my husband almost died under his care and his misdiagnoses. I wish nobody the misery we went through and will go through forever. My husband is damaged forever. My generalizations? We can't be specific, as you know, no matter how valid our reservations are about a doctor. Generalizations, btw, are unlikely to bring on a libel suit; specifics will however. I never saw any posting you ever made that was this illogical. It was over one year ago that my husband collapsed and was hospitalized and cared for at last by very good physicians, including Dr. Hector Briseno and his father. I called Dr. Leon immediately, of course, asked him to get in touch with our doctor. He didn't. When we talked again, he said he didn't, wasn't sure why he didn't. Those are his actual words. We never heard from him again. Over one year ago, when all this happened I did go on line and report what was allowed. Many personal exchanges followed. I heard many similar stories from those who suffered, just like we did, with this same doctor. And I shared the details of our ordeal. That's all that was possible. Why you're bringing this up, why you're questioning what I said in a brief reasonable line--here and not in a PM-- I just don't get it. Fortunately by now the person who started this thread received good advice. What your motives are in questioning what I said here, I just can't figure it out. My opinion of Dr. Leon is as valid as yours. So far, your experiences satisfy you. You'll be singing another song if your experiences ever get to be like ours, I'm sure. Lexy What people say to one another in personal messages is one thing. We can say whatever we believe, as you did. That was your side of the story. The doctor might have another side, but I haven't heard that. So far, no harm done; just opinions, privately spoken. What we post on the web for the public to read can be very damaging to a professional or a business and it is my understanding that it is not allowed in the rules on here, and I agree that we should not be doing so. Since I haven't heard "the other side of the story", I don't think that taking your unverified story public was fair to the doctor. I have a few very negative stories about local professionals. Since they can't or won't defend themselves and it's against both the rules of this forum and the libel laws, I'm going to keep them to myself. Nothing personal, Lexy. I would do the same if any poster did the same to any doctor, dentist, real estate agent, merchant or individual. I expect that the same would be done to me if I took my private grievances public.
