Carpal Tunnel

Recommended Posts

Carpal Tunnel surgery is a crock. The problem is in the tendons and nerves running from your shoulder to your hand, not in your wrist. Go to Dra. "Bea", the holistic doc at Integrity, and have her teach you the stretches. And maybe add a little physical therapy.

I agree with mtnmama....please keep an open mind about this!  I too suffer horribly from this...still do if I over use my right hand BUT I can control it with exercises and vitamin B6....check it out.  Avoid surgery if you can.  Good luck!

I had surgery at IMSS 5 years ago for my right hand

A lot of electro therapy after. Solved the problem

Now I am going for left hand surgery at IMSS. Therapy did not work

I worked for a fortune 100 company using large amounts of keyboards. I worked as an Ergo expert in addition to my normal engineering job. Many of the Doctor Diagnosed results of  this condition are wrong.  I would say over 50% (my data is ten years old).  They have tests so before they cut on you do the tests to be sure.  Not saying this is not real just saying its not that simple to figure out as folks think it is.   I wish all good luck with the solution they pick but study this and don't depend on a surgeon advice until you know for sure you need to be cut on.

The only hand specialist in Guadalajara is Dr. Oscar Orozco Romo.  333 615-0567.  I had carpal tunnel and tendinitis surgery with another doc.  it went well but I needed physical therapy afterward to loosen the scar.  Can't tell you price because I also had a shoulder surgery at the same time.  The carpal tunnel was mis-diagnosed by my GP here and by the orthopedist at Maskaras Clinic.

as with so many others who feel the pain in their hand or wrist when it is a shoulder problem. so now you have a tight scar tissue on your wrist from unnecessary surgery. I know GeorgiaPeach doesn't want to hear it, her mind is made up, but other are watching this thread and may be willing to learn how to help themselves. ergonomics can make a lot of difference. I noticed the cashier at telmex had a wrist support on, i mentioned to her that the height of the counter was making her raise her shoulder and that was causing her problem. she understood me and moved her station and now doesn't need the support or surgery...just saying.

You're right I do not want to hear it. As far as your comment that others may be willing to learn how to help themselves seems to insinuate that I was unwilling to do all the alternate therapies. How do you know my mind is made up, I don't know you. No, it is not my shoulder. I started this thread for answers to  a specific question. Ergonomics is not the answer to all. If others are interested then please start your own thread on that topic.

IMSS is taking too long for me

They did do an electromiograph  which pin points the diagnosis

I am working with Dr Cortes in Guad

Georgia, I apologize if I upset you. I have known too many instances of surgery that range from disappointment to disaster not to speak up. I was fortunate that acupuncture, therapy and stretches have worked for me. I truly hope your choice works as well for you.

As I have said before, I asked a specific question and requested info via PM not postings. Why must it always be something else on this board? If you  are so concerned about some being misdiagnosed then please start your own thread on that subject. Sounds like you're the one that should be relaxing.

I want to thank all the people that pm'd me with their personal experiences.

Not upset, just tired of postings going off track. I am not getting into my history but believe me, everything possible has been done. Everyone is different and so is the treatment. I am not a fan of surgery but refuse to live like an invalid  not being able to do the things that I need and want to do.

If you want to make sure you do not have unnecessary surgery get a electrmiogragh

Dr Cortes will do my surgery

FYI I threw out bait on this forum regarding Notaries and the responses were nothing short of entertaining

I did not have carpal tunnel but I have had a ruptured tendon in my wrist repaired by Dr. Gonzales at Maskaras, can barely see scar and did PT at home and recovered perfect.  I also had a hip replacement and many  other things done by him.

I am sure you have done your research, and I too feel your frustration with responses given.  Holistic medicine is not always the answer and many times is a long term thing.  Not for everyone..

Unnecessary surgery was not the posters question.  I am sure a consult with dr. mentioned above may be helpful, if you so desire. Oh, he also is not surgery happy...if not necessary.

You mis-understood me.  I DID have carpal tunnel syndrome unrelated to the shoulder issue - it was in the opposite hand.  The surgery was successful though I did need some PT to loosen the scar and I am now pain free.

As a person with a professional music and dance background I am quite familiar with various repetitive stress syndromes, etc.  Many musicians as well as any one who works with their hands and arms is vulnerable to these ailments.  The best cure is prevention, although this may be too late for some.

I created my own prevention exercise routines for my hands and wrists after noting that I was getting tendonitis in my hands from studying piano as I was preparing to segue out of a dance career and learn computer skills.  I didn't have pain or stiffness; my hands just wouldn't work, and I knew this would be a big problem.  Taking ibuprofen for a few weeks helped, plus heat treatments.

The exercises I created are based  on Balinese dance - they have tremendously agile hands.  It's too complicated to explain here, but they involve using the fingers, wrists and arms in full range of motion, as it is all connected and you can get symptoms around your shoulders and elbows as well.  Other very easy thing - if you are keyboarding a lot, or doing anything else repetitive, stand up at least once an hour and move away from your desk or workplace.  Go for a walk and lift your hands up at different levels and shake them loose as if you are flicking drops of water off your hands.  This will help relax all the tissues and bring circulation to the area.  Putting your hands in hot water before working is good.  Massage of affected areas afterwards helps a lot.

For more thorough treatments, the physical therapy clinic behind the Ajijic Clinic/Hospital is excellent.  Whether you have surgery or not, it takes at least 6 mo. to heal from these types of conditions.  There are no quick fixes!

Update;   had surgery this am - Dr. Martin Alberto Aguirre - at Hospital del Sagrado Corazon (Sacred Heart) Antonio Rosales No. 204 Guad. Excellent care, the nuns are wonderful - the hosp is over 100 yrs old - was a Monastery. The place is immaculate and up to date. I was told after surgery that when he opened up the area my nerves were so tight that they actually popped up. Glad I was sleeping and did not have to see that. The total cost was half the cost of the first Dr. I saw here and 10000mx less than the 2nd Dr. I saw here. 35,000 & 25,000mx. The office visit at the hospital for him was 380mx. I also asked about Colonoscopies and was given the names of two of their Gastroenterologists and the prices, 4000mx & 5000mx - done at the hospital. I would not hesitate to use the services that this Hospital provides.

Another tip for those with carpal tunnel issues- never put weight on your hand with your wrist flexed backwards, i.e. the position your hand would be in when doing push-ups, some yoga positions, resting your head on your hand, etc. Doing these things pushes the wrist bones apart, tightening the myelin sheath which covers the nerves and putting pressure on them, which is basically what is going on with carpal tunnel. A friend once showed me how to tape my wrist in a way that pulls those bones closer together and it relieved things a lot.

When doing exercises that would require that backward flex with weight issue, I make my wrist stiff and support my weight on my fist.
