Estada de Mexico license plates

I have been seeing more of these plates on cars. What are they? I saw a mention of them in one of Sonia's comments about them being illegal but?? In Bucerias, there are some unusual license plates there and I was told they are only good in the PV area. There doesn't seem to be any annual registration decals on these cars either.

I am told that Mexicans are getting these plates because they are fed up with the photo radar racket being run by Jalisco.  I would think that if they start with a Mexican factura'd and plated car they could get the Mexico plates using a relative or friends address there.

Some of the Mexican plates are bogus and used to run cover for chocolates or otherwise illegally imported or previously stolen cars.

This will go on for a while and then there will be a crackdown.  I wouldn't risk these plates to cover an illegal vehicle that is worth anything.  Otherwise, may as well play the game until the rules change.

I'll keep my Jalisco plates.  They really do cut down on the cop hassle.  Even along the border.

Thanks. The photo radar at KM 33 on the highway to the airport has not been there the past month or more (was only weekends when it was). Wonder where those Estada plates are sold--could use them just to go Costco!

They're a scam.

Somebody on Craig's list is selling them for 500 USD.

In Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit you are probably seeing ONAPPAFA plates. They have had an office there for many years. This is a national organization very similar to Sonia's overseers.

Here is a picture of them meeting a high ranking Nayarit official. They can get the vote out. Most gringos cannot vote in Mexico.

There is also this to consider too - March 2016
