Baxter71 Posted March 15, 2016 Report Share Posted March 15, 2016 How long are we all going to wait until lights are fixed at the Walmart corner, 2 weeks they have flashed, the most dangerous corner in the whole area are we going to wait until someone dies before we get them fixed, totally B.S. I wonder if maybe Harry B could take this up with the powers that be. sit at the Black Coffee on Sunday at 4.00P.M. and watch the mayhem from all the Guads turning left, giving no one a chance to go west on the carretera. Even with the lights it's mayhem what with all the cars making illegal turns in an out of Walmart. BTW, it's illegal to cross the yellow center line. congodog Posted March 15, 2016 Report Share Posted March 15, 2016 Interestingly enough, other than the Sunday afternoon mayhem (which I will admit I've not witnessed), my husband and I were remarking that there seems to be less congestion with the light blinking. ComputerGuy Posted March 15, 2016 Report Share Posted March 15, 2016 Going through Ajijic, with all those lights, and through La Floresta, with those lights, works much better when they are flashing. Interestingly, they tend to set them as flashing when they expect a lot of tourist traffic on weekends. People revert to their more civil ways: allowing others to enter from side streets, letting pedestrians cross, and in general being much more aware of helping out. Why the "officials" do not physically test these highways with traffic density equipment mystifies me. Since traffic flow is so much better when the lights are flashing during periods of high congestion, is it not obvious how much better it would be during regular traffic? LifeNo5 Posted March 15, 2016 Report Share Posted March 15, 2016 Also the light at the first intersection in Ajijic Village, where Tratatoria Ajijic was, physically fell on a car several days ago (scary itself). So those driving east see no light at all while the north/south cars see both red and green.... I think you can see what is going to happen here. Sigh.... Semalu Posted March 16, 2016 Report Share Posted March 16, 2016 Yes it is easier to drive through with lights flashing, and may work in a world where only cars use the roads. The need for traffic lights is made clear to me every time I see a mother anxiously trying to cross the street with family in tow where a light once worked, or a frail retiree. No doubt in my mind those lights need urgent attention. Traffic flow studies are another good idea provided something effective gets done with the results. I don't think anyone suggested those lights should be on a flashing cycle. Uh-uh. There was a transito there the other day, standing on his motorbike, fiddling with the control box, but to no avail. Today there was a transito pickup parked around 12:30, on the sidelot where the buses careen through, feet up and checking his cell phone, while the yet-unimproved lights caused the general amount of confusion. The really nasty bit right now is that if you are facing the lights and heading west, green is dead, but if you are coming from the west, they are flashing. Still, there were words and phrases not used in polite society. It still was considered wrong for civilized people to cuss with no regard for whoever might be around. It was also considered rude, ignorant and unacceptable to insult people based on gender, race or class. JayBearII Posted March 16, 2016 Report Share Posted March 16, 2016 I went thru the intersection at the carretera and libramiento about 12:30 today and there were about 4 guys there repairing the lights. (Two of the guys were directing traffic, which struck me as wildly brave of them!) They were NOT back to normal when I came thru an hour or so ago, but maintain faith!!! Many years ago, there was the first wave of immigration from Hong Kong to Vancouver. Many of these were very wealthy people, and they bought massive homes in the suburbs, moving parents, aunties, etc. But now most of the these new immigrants were kind of alienated, existing residents were nice enough to them, and welcoming, but the activities they love were just not available. Most Hong Kong Chinese have a passion for gambling, but at that time there were not even any casinos. So where did a big crowd of them end up? Why the local bowling alley of course.
