barrbower Posted December 24, 2015 Report Share Posted December 24, 2015 It used to be true that as a citizen of the USA, the first thing you learned to say in Spanish was "Don't shoot, I'm Canadian." That was because you would likely be treated better by both the police and "justice" system. I guess Canada is now no better than the USA in protecting its citizens living abroad. I guess if it was politically and financially worth doing they would both still do something to help. But if you are just an average citizen of either country...you are on your own. ericandleslie Posted December 24, 2015 Report Share Posted December 24, 2015 I can't find the article but the back story is that the guy was fired from his job with a mining company months before the alleged home invasion (the victims claim he beat them up in a park) due to his aggressive behavior and also had trouble with local police previously due to similar behavioral issues.
