gregweeks
This note is a search for medical doctors. In the four years that we've been lakeside, we've heard of (and visited) Dr León and Dr Lastra many times. No complaints, but we are hoping to expand our two choices to something more like twenty. So: - Do you have a doctor to recommend? - Does a listing of lakeside doctors exist? - We're interested in doctors with regular office hours. (This rules out some or all clinics because the doctors rotate schedules.) - About language. I think that with patience on both sides, we could work with a Spanish-only doctor. However, from what we saw at the "Hospital Clínica Ajijic", some knowledge of English seems to be a common medical trait. Thanks, Greg and Paul Weeks
gringal
I'm sure many people will offer suggestions, and so, without showing favoritism, I'd suggest this approach: It's good to have a "family doctor" who knows you over a period of time, keeps good records so that your past health issues are available to him/her, and who is willing to make house calls at any hour in a serious emergency. If you find a primary care doctor with whom you are comfortable, you can ask him/her for reliable recommendations for specialists. Your friends will tell you who they had good or bad experiences with, but the doctors themselves know who has been naughty or nice much more reliably. I made a point of selecting a primary care physician who also exhibited good health in his own person; and who is much younger than I. Why? So I can hope to have someone I've known a long time to hold my hand when I run out of pavement. As far as clinics are concerned, it's good to know there is somewhere you can go for repairs if you have a home accident and are bleeding profusely at 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. This happened to me. ( Don't ask for details. I was, however, cold sober.) Ajijic Clinic has been good for this kind of thing. Always open.
luisa
The US Consulate maintains a list of doctors. I imagine that other consulates do too.

cedros
20 doctors!! Are you expecting major problems? Your records would be scattered all over the place with no one doctor having the complete picture.
El Saltos
My favorites are; Dr. Juan Pablo Loza and Dra. Carla Cueva Flores. (she does services in your home and will take to you Guad if you need tests or to see a specialist.) Both speak perfect english.
gringal
One important question before selecting a doctor: How long has the doctor been practicing medicine? I'm not saying that a new practitioner wouldn't be a good choice, but experience does make a difference, especially in diagnosis.
RVGRINGO
For GP, Dr Lastra and/or Juan Pablo in Chapala. Either will send you to a good specialist whenever the need arrises. Otherwise, Quality Care is an excellent choice for various specialties, all of whom will give you contact information and meet you at a Guadalajara hospital in an emergency. I see no need for 20, unless you plan to publish a directory.
gregweeks
Thanks everyone! PS: The phonebook that I got my hands on has two clinic listings and two private listings for Ajijic. No Léon. No Lastra. PS: Why did I want a list of 20? To find a *good* one. (Okay, I've had some bad luck.)
GeorgiaPeach
Good Luck - we have been here for 9 years and still have not found a good GP. Some specialists yes.
ibarra
We've lived in MX full time for 17 years. I suffer from an extensive head injury that causes seizures etc. and I have Sarcoidosis. Dr. Santiago Hernandez literally saved my life. I know of others that have had the same experience. He is Mexican but grew up in Indiana. I don't recommend many people, but do not hesitate with this recommendation. You can find out a lot of information about him from his web site.
