sasesofe
A cyclone in the Arabian Sea has been named Chapala. I have seen that name used for towns, streets, subdivisions and businesses in other countries. What is the origin of the name Chapala?
Sea
I saw that Cyclone Chapala also. Google Chapala and it just names all kinds of place names. So I don't know either. Didn't see any use of it as a person's name. Maybe they don't follow that rule in naming Cyclones. My interest fell off right before googling for that info. El Cartero
In Indian mythology, India not native american, Chapala is, I believe the Godess of Fortune. Here no one really knows, the Native American chief, a derivitive of Chapalta - the throwing of pots in ceremony to the lake, or something about waves feom the lake. MtnMama
According to Wikipedia, "The nameChapala was suggested by Bangladesh; it is a girls' name, meaning restless in Bangla.[1]" Sounds like a good name for a tropical storm.
