ComputerGuy
In the end, though, if you want a stronger maple taste, you go for the darker, less-costly stuff.
Apoco
When eating breakfast in Guatemala, I was given syrup for my pancakes. It was labeled in Spanish, Jarabe Maple. The funny thing is that the label also said, "Calidad de exportación", export quality. I almost wet my pants.

eagles100
I'm one of those hard-core maple syrup fans. We brought back a gallon of extra dark maple syrup from when we were in New Brunswick, Canada in September. I haven't opened it yet because I need to use up the Kirkland brand stuff ... nope, it doesn't cut it for me. Before we went to Canada, I had my hubby put some in shot glasses; one was the Kirkland brand and the other was dark maple syrup from New Brunswick. There was NO contest. The Kirkland was lighter in colour and taste + it was much runnier. The NB one was dark in colour, full flavour and was much thicker.
Sea
What is the brand on the New Brunswick stuff? I've only tried MacDonalds... which is light, and Costco's.
eagles100
What is the brand on the New Brunswick stuff? I've only tried MacDonalds... which is light, and Costco's. The brand is Briggs Maples. I believe it's mainly available in New Brunswick as they are a small producer.
Sea
The brand is Briggs Maples. I believe it's mainly available in New Brunswick as they are a small producer. Thanks. Amazon had it in an unavailable New Brunswick gift pack. I'm trying "Now" grade B Vermont that people seem to enjoy. I'd be lost without Amazon rating discussions. Al Berca
I saw it at Costco yesterday, also. No shortage. Lots there. Same brand and size as usual. Price bumped from 169 to 189. Still a bargain.
Apoco
Tonight I drizzled some on a buttered sweet potato. No need for desert now.
ComputerGuy
So it's bottled in March/April, and takes until November to get here. I know some of the delay has to do with the laws and licenses that CostCo has to deal with about importing products. But for those who's thoughts turn to syrup in the springtime, now is the time to stock up. I put a piece of tinfoil under the lid after every use to keep it airtight for extended periods, so I don't get the sugar mold that wants to creep in.
