maple syrup

I'm one of those hard-core maple syrup fans.

We brought back a gallon of extra dark maple syrup from when we were in New Brunswick, Canada in September.

I haven't opened it yet because I need to use up the Kirkland brand stuff ... nope, it doesn't cut it for me.

Before we went to Canada, I had my hubby put some in shot glasses; one was the Kirkland brand and the other was dark maple syrup from New Brunswick. There was NO contest. The Kirkland was lighter in colour and taste + it was much runnier. The NB one was dark in colour, full flavour and was much thicker.

The brand is Briggs Maples. I believe it's mainly available in New Brunswick as they are a small producer.

Thanks. Amazon had it in an unavailable New Brunswick gift pack. :) I'm trying "Now" grade B Vermont that people seem to enjoy. I'd be lost without Amazon rating discussions.

I encourage everyone to read these two sites before commenting any more. Lighter does not mean better or worse, nor does darker.

So it's bottled in March/April, and takes until November to get here. I know some of the delay has to do with the laws and licenses that CostCo has to deal with about importing products. But for those who's thoughts turn to syrup in the springtime, now is the time to stock up. I put a piece of tinfoil under the lid after every use to keep it airtight for extended periods, so I don't get the sugar mold that wants to creep in.

I use to drink it straight from a glass, like you drink any hard liquor

It taste heavenly, if you have friends or relatives coming over for the holidays, ask them to bring a few cans with them
