Texas Junk Yard-driving out a car for part

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experience with driving an old vehicle they don't want anymore, to the border to remove the sticker and proceed directly to a junk yard? The problems are the US South Dakota plates are now expired and not sure of how to go about temporary insurance from the border to the junk yard and if there is such a thing as a getting legal permission on the US side to drive direct from the border to the junk yard. Wouldn't that be nice maybe??? Or having a tow truck waiting at the border to tow to the junk yard? Or maybe towing to an auction yard? What are the least expensive options?

Hopeful

We recently drove to the U.S. and bought liability only insurance right across the border at an insurance place inside an HEB (Texas). That was the only place that would sell short term insurance. One month minimum. Really easy and took about 10 minutes and cost about $50 for the month. I think the place was called Pronto insurance.

Leave your car in the parking lot of the border station in Laredo and have a junk yard come pick it up. Search for junkyards in Laredo and I'm sure you'll get plenty of results. You might also consider calling some used car dealers, which are plentiful in Laredo close to the bridge.
