canmex87
I've renewed my driver's license in both Guadalajara and Ocotlan and its a shorter drive, better parking and just as fast in Ocotlan. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Av. Universidad No. 950, Local 64, Centro Comercial Plaza San Felipe, Entre Ecuador y del Obrero, Colonia San Felipe.47810 - Ocotlán (Jalisco)Ocotlán (Jalisco), Jalisco

Did I hear wrong?
canmex87
I have heard that NEW drivers license and RENEWING are done at different addresses. Did I hear wrong? New licenses are done on the main floor and renewals on the second floor. The offices are located at the rear part of the plaza. There is parking at either the rear or front of the plaza. cedros
For new licenses, do we need driving and written tests? The written test probably. The driving test maybe. You won't know until you try as it varies a lot.
CHILLIN
I don't believe the written test varies a lot - there is what they are supposed to do and that is that.10 questions out of possible 100, 20 minutes (2 minutes each question) and if you get more than 2 wrong, you have to come back for another try, but you don't have to pay again. The questions are in Spanish, and ONLY in Spanish, and the language, or phrasing, is of the bureaucratic type - making things seem more complicated and official than they really are. You are NOT allowed to bring a list or papers, you are NOT allowed a translator/facilitator, you are NOT allowed to hire someone to take the test for you. In Ocotlan, at least, the people who work there seem to consider these to be good jobs, they do not want to lose them, or as what happened in Chapala - shut the whole corrupt mess down. Ocotlan even has surveillance cameras. I understand that the driving test is much easier in Ocotlan. Again, only in Spanish. You must provide your own vehicle. It is mostly in the Mall parking lot. The toughest part is not very tough - parallel park within a certain distance from the curb, no more than 3 gear changes, otherwise you fail. Sorry - no do overs, on that day at least. canmex87
On renewals in Ocotlan they didn't even require the eye test.
Willie
Having just gotten a new license in Ocotlan.....you take the test an a computer...10 questions ...10 minutes. The driving test consisted of parallel parking between 2 cones. 2 nd floor for everything except payment....1st floor for that....back to 2nd floor with the receipt..trade that for your license. I had a young man take me there as I would never have found the place! Good luck!

When you drive into Ocotaln you will see a sign (at clover leaf) for Ocotlan). This is Francisco Zarco. Take it for about 3 kms and the plaza is on the right side. There is no name on the plaza but there is a large sign `Casino``
CHILLIN
The trick to finding the place is remember the entrance is beside the Cineplex theaters at one end of the Mall. Someone here remarked that the traffic laws in Jalisco are very different from NOB. For example, from the test questions, may not be the actual laws. Every motorist should carry a fire extinguisher, a slotted screwdriver, a philips (star) screwdriver, a bottle of soapy water and rag for cleaning windows, a jack, a lug wrench, a wooden chock (square of wood with a rope on it). Now imagine encountering these words in Spanish for the first time. You have to study the test questions in Spanish, in advance. Google translate massacres the questions into unrecognizable gibberish, which will be of no use to you whatsoever.
None of that "what to carry" here ...... trickiest was about making a left turn (from the lateral if there is one). You can bring help and the Transito even tried to help me with one.. Both test and eye test were on the same computer ..... and no driving test. You need a local reference name and know your blood type Next time on the coast try Cihuatlan ..... muy easy
