Stymie
Does Walmart (in San Antonio) sell electric blankets?
Jerry
I`ve check several times over the last couple of years, never found one at Walmart. Pharm. Christina has a heating pad although rather pricey at eight hundred pesos and small. I found a nice one at Barbara Bazar, probably came from NOB and ended up there. ajijiccharlie
Always carry a heating pad and a thermometer. I had to pantomime "hot water bottle" in China--not easy.

ajijiccharlie
I think the question is electric blanket not electric pad Yes, but I have never seen an electric blanket here in Mexico.
callejera
We brought one down from the States. I did see them at Costco once for about ten seconds but that was a few years ago.
dcstroker
With the chance of sending your electric bill through the roof items like electric blankets, electric stoves, and electric heaters are generally not recommended down here. Serenity6
I'm sure Amazon.com US would be able to ship you one in no time. I think it would be very difficult if not impossible to find here. I couldn't find hair straightening product anywhere and realized that its just not a product most Mexican women buy. Same thing with the blanket.

Serenity6
Doh! I state that it'll be hard to find an electric blanket and turns out 50 people have found them. Figures! Looks like you can find one and won't freeze.
Sea
Lakeside Express lists an electric blanket from Costco. I bought mine a few years ago and it's excellent. I don't find the price for the electricity excessive.
Yo1
The power needed to use an electric blanket is pretty minimal and wouldn't affect your power bill.
Stymie
thanks all, my college roommate used one while the 2 others froze. he would turn it on a few minutes before and then turn it off when getting into bed. then he would taunt us. I was tempted more than once to do nasty things to that blanket. last winter was my first full winter in Ajijic and there were a few nights when I just didn't have enough blankets. Serenity6
The last home I lived in didn't have a working fireplace and the room was too large for a small heater. I wish I had thought of an electric blanket. Such a great idea for a low cost. If you have cats they may never leave the bed though.

traderspoc
i agree electric blanket and heating makes you feel good, but not healthy. example heating pad feels good when laying down, but swell sciatic never, hurts when you get up and move. do the research, do your own due diligence. use the electric blanket to heat the bed, then turn it off . not not sleep in a electric field. with the heating blanket on. instead of dry heat, use moist heat pads, heated in hot water, wrapped in a towel. moist heat will help any tight muscle. the new aches and pains you will be having is from the electricity and dry heat. gringal
For those seeking some scientific thoughts on the hazards of electric blankets, one of Senor Google's offerings: http://www.worldhealth.net/news/sleeping_under_an_electric_blanket_may_b/ There's a lot to be said for having an extra down comforter and a hot water bottle where your feets go before bedtime. Lexy
I am also suggesting a down quilt. We brought two of them when we were moving down here only to use as wraps around some large artwork, never thinking we'd ever have use for them later. But the cold winter nights in Ajijic surprised us. We've been using them ever since. Really, really warm. I find the idea of electric blankets scary. gringal
A friend of mine says that having her three cats by her feet do the job nicely, too. Not so good in summer, though.

PORTIMOM
not not sleep in a electric field. with the heating blanket on. Right... Do not sleep in a electric magnetic field. Also that laptop, should have a shield if on your lap, and only plugged in when charging (not when using). http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/avoiding-emf-exposure-laptops-notebooks/
