solajijic
There has been a group playing for a little more than 5 years. Monday and Wednesday mornings around 10ish down at the Ajijic Malecon. Stroll down, look around for them and introduce yourself.

SunshineyDay
It appears to be the French version of Bocce Ball. Both have been around a few centuries. Never heard of Petanque until now. Looks like it would be a fun game.
windrider
Steel balls, un-manicured surface on court, throw with a hand over the ball motion, not underhand, other rules are different as well, but similar to Bocce and fun.
Travis
The last two posts describe the game well enough for the uninitiated. It's an easy game to enjoy as long as you're playing with people you enjoy. The group that plays down by the lake is very pleasant and fun and doesn't take Petanque tooooo seriously. Well, maybe one does….
