Louie
Anybody know where to find this locally? TIA
Sumofabit
It has two uses, the first as a pool filter media, so a pool supply store would carry it. The second is to take internally and sure fire BS.
holdrja
Handy Mail, in San Antonio on the highway to the east of SuperLake, carries pool supplies and I have noticed a big barrel of DE there.
Osoprehistorico
It is also used in filters for aquariums so a pet store may have it.
asisis
There two types. If you are going to ingest it make sure it is not garden grade. Garden stores have that grade.
Louie
Good responses, thanks everyone. I am going to use it to help control fleas on my dog and cat and in the garden and on their bedding. So no, I have no intention of eating it. Now I know where to begin. future expat
I also have been looking for diatomaceous earth. I take buses and taxis since I don't drive so would really appreciate knowing where it can be found.
Louie
I bought what I think will do the trick today at the Animal Store. It is food grade, safe for pets and home and not safe for fleas! Hopefully. Someone locally is making the product, it's in a squeeze bottle, nicely labeled and explained, and it was 100 pesos. There were 2 more bottles. The girl behind the counter didn't know anything about it but Sue directed me to it and it's just as you come in on the right close to the counter. Frijoles
What is it called in Spanish? Thanks.
MtnMama
The garden grade is available at the garden store in Riberas about 3 blocks west of Casi Nuevo on the lake side of the caraterra. It is next to an appliance store and usually has a signboard outside. She sells numerous eco-friendly products
CCC
Both garden centres in Riberas carry garden grade. The garden grade is what is used in food such as grains so most people already ingest it without realizing it is a common preservative. The pool formula is quite different and very toxic. Willie
If you are going to use it on your pet, be very sure it is FOOD grade. If you can't find what you're sure is food grade, there is a place in Texas that will ship to Mexico...not inexpensive but really good.
Louie
I'm sure, Willie, but thanks for your concern. It's available here, no need for help from Texas.
barrbower
DE or sometimes called DTE is normally sold as an organic insecticide. Much like Borax or RoachPrufe, it acts as an irritant bug killer on any insect that has an exoskeleton. It will continue to work as long as it stays dry and is considered safe for use in food prep areas but not on food prep surfaces and is also safe around kids and pets. I have not heard before of eating it on purpose or for use as a preservative...who knew? Alan
