Crossing border with house stuff

Recommended Posts

I know there are lots of answers to this, but my searches haven't worked. Friends considering moving here and want to know how you cross border with house items and tools.

Tell them to point the car south and smile a lot. Nothing to declare unless it is new stuff. They will be happy if they remember to get visas and the car permit.

Agreed, but this is assuming that they aren't "pulling a trailer" with their household items.... i.e. they just have their vehicle packed to the gills.

We cross 2 borders on our way to and from Canada. We've done 8 double crossings so far. Only one border person (American, as we came from Mexico) on one occasion noticed the two dogs in two crates filling the back seat. He asked if we had 'papers' for our dogs. We said yes, and went to get them from the glove compartment. He just waved us on.
