In this class, we will be working at all levels of experience. Beginners will learn the basic basketry techniques using natural materials gathered from the Chapala area (reeds, vines, bark).Others may wish to continue with projects already begun or learn a new technique or experiment with man-made materials such as yarn and other fibers. Jan Steinbright is the instructor. She has had over forty years experience in fiber arts and sculpture, is a teacher and a working artist. To register, adobestudiomx@gmail.com Raku Pottery at Adobe Studio Joe Smith, 40 years teaching experience Two Mondays, February 23, March 2, 10am – 1pm. 800p (includes instruction, materials, glazes and firing) (100p deposit to hold place in class) Raku is a six-hundred year-old Japanese tradition of firing pottery by loading pots into a hot kiln and 20 minutes later unloading the glowing hot pots and reloading with more pots. We will add the Western process of placing the red hot pots in combustible materials to bring out metallic sheens in the glazes. Students will have hands-on experience in all steps of the process.Hand-building and wheel-throwing will be taught in the class. No previous experience is necessary, but advanced students are welcome.Raku means "felicity" or "enjoyment".
