Chop
Can anyone tell me exactly where this place is? I have heard 'across from Soriana'... but have not had much luck trying to locate it on foot.
canmex87
Its on the west side of Venustian Carranza between the Pemex and Pepe Guizar.
behnwau
Yes that is his new location. He is no longer across from Soriana
Chop
Thank you both! That is a big help.
Tony_In_Mexico
Good to know. I knew he was no longer across from Soriana, but assumed he'd just closed up shop.
behnwau
His new digs are bigger and better. He no longer teaches school and does tatts and art full time.
ComputerGuy
He's really good at it, too. I mean really an artist.
Chop
Both my wife and I got our tattoos with El Negro this past week. Had a very good experience. He provided multiple sketches to work from, and was a enjoyable guy to sit with for the few hours we were there.
Sandrita
Did it hurt?
Tony_In_Mexico
Did it hurt? It's a tattoo. Of course it hurt. Tattoo place in the states I used to go to had bumper stickers available for customers with the name of the shop and the slogan, "Fuck yeah it hurt". bezerk
@ sandrita...hola..yes they hurt. In comparison to many things not too much. The hurt level depends where you get the tattoo and size etc. None of mine hurt so bad I would cry or anything. One I had on back of shoulder I almost fell asleep..LOL. I have not had my tats at El Negro but in Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo. This year will be the first year I will get one by another artist, El Negro as not going to Ixtapa this year. My husband says they hurt a lot, men such babies..hehehe. They say some tattoo artists have a heavy hand and others light. I have no comparisons but wil let you know when I do. I am due for my 6th year survivor tattoo in May.
sunnyvmx
Anything that makes you bleed, hurts. My first tattoo was of a beautiful bird taking off in flight. My outraged mom asked me what I thought it would look like when I was old. I said, "A beautiful bird landing."
Tony_In_Mexico
My mom has worked at the VA for years, seeing a constant stream of wrinkled old vets with old, wrinkled tattoos. When she saw my first one she had a similar question. "Don't you know ugly that's going to look when you're 80?" My response, then and now, do you honestly think I'm going to give a crap what I look like when I'm 80?
Crusty
Hi. Can't find his website. Looking for examples of his art. Anyone have a non-Facebook link? Thanks
behnwau
Why not just go there to look at his art.
Crusty
Why not just go there to look at his art.I'm not local....YET I want a tatoo to celebrate retirement & have been looking for an artist - not just a tattooist. So just trying to decide whether to wait for my next trip.
ComputerGuy
He only uses FaceBook. Crusty, PM me... I'll send you two magnificent images of the Katrina he did for my daughter.
behnwau
As well as tattoos he does airbrush work on cars, motorcycles and helmets, etc. He learned his trade in California. I have 3 tatts and other art works done by him,all originals and not from a catalogue. He drew them first for approval.
gogirl
I have 6 tattoos and Negro did 5 of them. My husband has 2 also by Negro. My son and his fiance have 2 each done by Negro. Obviously we highly recommend him. As bezerk said the pain level depends on where you get it done. The only one that hurt me was on my lower leg. Extremities are painful. There is a chart you can look at that shows pain levels.
dcstroker
Is this artist's name Martin? Sounds like the one that I went to about 8 years ago. Had his shop on the street a block up from the plaza in Chapala. Got 3 tattoos from him. If it's the same one he is indeed an artist.
ComputerGuy
No, that's a different guy. He did a small one for me about five years ago. He's okay, but I think El Negro is much better.
alphacat
Are comparable quality tattoos generally cheaper to get here as opposed to NOB?
shortshrink
Does he do permanent makeup??
ComputerGuy
Are comparable quality tattoos generally cheaper to get here as opposed to NOB? Gosh yes. My daughter figures between 50 to 75% cheaper, depending. El Negro charged $3,000 pesos for her original design (12"-tall leg tattoo) with his suggestions added; it would have cost her probably $750 at home. Tony_In_Mexico
I wasn't going to say anything, but with all these glowing recommendations I feel compelled to speak. I've had good experiences with Negro. I've also had a very negative experience with him. So, take that for what it's worth.
