Sonia
Authorities in Mexico are cracking down on the movement of minors after an infant was found in a truck bearing signs of being trafficking. Now, the National Migration Institute will not permit minors to travel without documentation. Even if traveling with parents, immigration documents must be produced for all children, Norte Digital reports. Inspections occur at bus stops, airports, and other locations. Children without identification at these stops will be held, along with their companion(s). These companions will be required to prove their relationship to the child or children in question. This is not new but a reminder as Mexico tries to reduce human trafficking. Sonia
holdrja
Some current info on children traveling to Mexico: Two days ago I volunteered to keep an eye on a 12 year old being sent on a flight from San Antonio, TX to Guadalajara. The boy was required to have his American passport, and to fill out customs and immigration papers like the rest of us. He did not have to produce notarised permission from his parents to travel. Since he was 12, he could have traveled on his own, but his grandfather paid Volaris an extra $60 USD to have the boy watched over in transit. The kid was not left alone for a second after that! And, he got to go through the expedited lines for security and immigration. They even accompanied him to a Starbucks for a snack before he got on the plane. ichbinsaege
I am surprised he didn't have to produce notarized documents from both parents. Maybe because he flew on the unaccompanied minor services? My 17 year old had to have notarized documents to fly here this year.
