northern dude
I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from allergies right now ? Usually my main problems are when the Jacaranda trees are in bloom, but this last two weeks has been driving me crazy...anyone else ?
Canuck
My sinuses have been going crazy the past couple of weeks. That feeling of constantly being on the verge of a sneeze. Glad to have antihistamine.
bradshoe
Both my wife and I have had lots of blowing our noses and several sneezes luckily not usually on the same day. Even a little coughing in the middle of the night. We live in Riberas with lots of Jacrandas so I'm blaming it on them.
daisy2013
buy either loratadina or next, both work very good
behnwau
If you have heart failure and you've had strokes you can't use antihistamines. Sneezing and coughing isn't a big deal for me on occassion; like right now. It might be the dust. Welcome to the dry season.
MtnMama
Husband and I have both noticed increased allergies in the last few weeks. Mine aren't bad enough to take drugs, but very annoying.
Floradude
Anti-histamines do not raise blood pressure. What you do not want to take are the cold preps. that combine Decongestants (they raise BP) and anti-histamines.
desafinada
I've noticed that the woodfire place season has started. That kills my allergies.
ichbinsaege
I have had allergies my whole life - allergic to a lot of plants, mold and dust - and usually loratadina or a loratadina + a decongestant helps me. HOWEVER, this year, specifically this fall, has been the worst I've dealt with. I also saw a tree bloom in the mountain across from my place, a tree with white flowers, that I have never seen bloom in the four years I have been here. Don't know if that was the culprit for me, or if all the mold that has developed from the late rains?

Tell my cardiologists and neurologists that they were wrong to take me off antihistamines then.i'm sure that all the stroke clinics in Canada would like to here from you as well. osuespirit
I agree with Floradude. I have had allergies all my life. I have taken antihistamines all my life, however, when I got older and developed high blood pressure my US doctors immediately took me off decongestants. The local spray, Sterimar, works better anyway.
behnwau
Antihistamines can cause ruptures of blood vessels leading to stroke. I also took them almost all my adult life and prefer to take advice from doctors who specialize in stroke and heart failure than a couple of lay persons. Sterimar is not an antihistamine. Spray some salt water up your nose. It's cheaper. I now use an inhaler[doctor prescribed] and Buckleys for my allergies both having been cleared by my doctors.Antihistamines are a thing of the past for people who have similar problems to mine. lcscats
Every drug has side effects. Antihistimines are still a pretty safe handy thing. I wouldn't not think of traveling without Benadryl for emergencies. While I am sure newer drugs exist I am also sure some people will have problems with the newer drugs. No drug is safe to all people at all times. According to two sources Antihistamines are OK for heart patients but many cold medicines are not. Both sources mention Benadryl is just fine. Ask your Doctor to be sure of course!
Solfeggio
We have lived here for decades, and this year, 3 members of our family have had horrible allergies that led to bronchitis. This is a first for this time of year. We have talked about what might be causing the allergies, but have no answers as to what might be different than past years.
