tycobb1020
If you have been approved for the Temporal Visa, given your finger prints, but do not yet have the visa card, do you still need a Travel Letter if you will be traveling to the US? RVGRINGO
Yes, you do. You cannot re-enter Mexico without it. If you did try, filling out an FMM would have to be as a tourist and that would void your RT visa application and all your fees and previous time would be lost, causing you to have to start all over again. So.....Be sure to get the letter and be certain not to exceed the time allowed outside of Mexico.
tycobb1020
That's the plan . . . thanks. However, spending Christmas with the kids and grandkids trumps everything else.
Sonia
Travel letters are good for 60 days from date of issuance. The INM fee is ~322 pesos. You also need photos. Often helps to have someone such as Spencer assist. Some INM offices produce them in 1 to 2 business days but I believe Chapala is slower so plan accordingly. Plus INM closes for 2 full weeks after Dec 19. When you leave and return have your travel letter stamped both times. Then submit it along with passport and usually the FMM to INM within 10 calendar days of entering Mexico. Enjoy your family Sonia

Intercasa
People who renew late may not get travel letters as they are doing a regularization. We are in the process of helping one person fight this dumb rule which is a civil rights violation. We will be filing an amparo against the law. tycobb1020
I have to renew a Temporal Visa every year? What are the fees for renewing a Temporal Visa?
RVGRINGO
When your first Residente Temporal visa is within 30 days of expiring, you may go to INM and start the process to renew it for 1, 2, or 3 more years. At the end of four completed years, you will apply for Residente Permanente and that will be the end of renewals.
Intercasa
Fees for renewal depend on how many years, you also need to check if you have been here 4 years or more if they will make you go permanent so that you do not pay and turn in papers to find out that you are rejected and need to change to permanent and then have a big hassle to get your thousands of pesos back that you paid via SAT in Guadalajara and lots of hoops to jump through and paperwork.
