poptarte_22@yahoo.com
Today we watched the Pemex station on the carreterra under close protection or ?. 4 vehicles with about 24 officers...stood guard for over 20 minutes while the vehicles gassed up. It was impressive but somewhat concerning, so many and the area so quiet seemingly. Any one know what that was all about? A lot of armed men on a quiet Friday afternoon.... Whats going down???? egcallis
Typically its a muckity-muck traveling with federal protection. Not sure of the spelling though. We saw them and was amazed to see normal folks attempting to gas-up.

SoxFan
I went to the festival in Ajijic and they had checkpoints set up around the plaza. They were frisking men and checking purses of women entering.

sunnyvmx
That is the standard MO when fueling. I've seen it all over Mexico when traveling. Because the officers are most vulnerable to attack from cartel gangs when stationary they stand on guard.
lcscats
Its normal procedures as was said by others. Just walk past smile and don't surprise them. They are fine at least with us tourists/gringo locals. Interesting folks to talk to but do understand they are shot at so they are a little bit touchy sometimes. All Day
There were no Federales. I was at El Barco when they were fueling their vehicles. They were Estatal, not Federales. Just read the side of the truck.
