Recommended Posts

Raku Pottery Class, Two Mondays, Novermber 24 & December 1st - 10 -1 pm.

Instructor: Joe Smith, 40 years teaching experience

Raku is a six-hundred year-old Japanese tradition of firing pottery by loading pots into a hot kiln and 20 minutes later unloading the glowing hot pots and reloading with more pots. We will add the Western process of placing the red hot pots in combustible materials to bring out metalic sheens in the glazes. Students will have hands-on experience in all steps of the process.
Hand-building and wheel-throwing will be taught in the class. No previous experience is necessary, but advanced students are welcome.
Raku means "felicity" or "enjoyment
.
