koshiboy
Is it legal to burn trash in Ajijic or Chapala? My local air quality is severely impaired by this habit. If it were only yard waste, it would be merely bad, but there is always a substantial amount of plastic items in the mix, which fills the air with dioxins and possibly other toxic and carcinogenic compounds. What can be done to curtail this threat to public health?
Yo1
I believe it is illegal to burn trash or even garden debris. My neighbors burn plastics too and it's really awful. You can call the bomberos and see if they come and give the burners a bad time.
cedros
It may be illegal but it is common practice and it has been for many, many years. From my mirador I can usually see someone burning somewhere. It is no use getting too agitated about it as it won't stop soon. If it is too close I close my windows and I keep an eye out for sparks landing on my solar panels.
