TelMex Internet news

Nothing big, just surprising. During assisting a client today I was online with Infinitum support in Mexico. He said a few noteworthy things:

1. This customer is paying a rate that is similar to the lowest paquete available. About $349p + fees for calls, etc. He thought he was getting the paquete. What he has been getting is 1 Mbit service all these years, which tops out when everything is working perfectly at .89. So we arranged to get the $389 paquete, which will give him 2Mbits for a lower price. This is pretty sneaky on the part of TelMex, charging more and providing less all this time.

2. Support Guy said as of two years ago, everyone paying for the 2Mbit service was auto-bumped up to 3Mbits. Now, that's interesting. So he went off to do that; came back and said he could not "right now, because the servers are being upgraded". Asked when will that happen, he could not say next week, 6 months, 12 months... obviously this is a case of TelMex advertising before they are ready. "Being upgraded" means "will be upgraded at some point, based on some plan somewhere for all of Mexico".

3. Asked about the "get an extra MBit for 99 pesos" offer, he said that "promotion" ended a couple of months ago, and no one is eligible anymore.

4. Asked if 5M and 10M plans would also go up like the 2M plan "went up", he said "No."
