NEW OPHTHALMOLOGIST IN TOWN

Recommended Posts

A new ophthalmologist has just opened an office in Plaza Montana ((corner of Colon & Carratera)). His name is Dr.Rigoberto Rios Leon. He studied in Italy and Germany and did a post Doc fellowship in the U.S. His office is called Alta Retina. The office phone number is 766-1521. He speaks English fluently. He also has an office in Guadalajara. He has been treating me for post op complications from eye surgery done by a different doctor. He recently moved here permanently and has a home in west Ajijic, only ten minutes from the office, so he can respond to emergencies quickly. He is a retina specialist. He charged me $800 pesos for the first visit. I have had several subsequent visits - all at no charge. He also fits and sells glasses and has a good selection of frames. I highly recommend him.

Does he also fill an eyeglass prescription?

Does anybody have his email address? Thanks!

I recently got a very thorough eye exam there - very pleased. And got eye glasses and frames, very reasonable prices. And you can also get polarized lenses for driving which is my next purchase. Very happy with my eye glasses. Had just got new ones from my long time doctor in Guadalajara and with these my vision is much better. It can take awhile to get an appointment and his waiting room is crowded.

I can highly recommend Dr. Rios, as well.

Had a detaching retina and emergency surgery at the facility in GDL. I credit him with saving my vision in that eye. Excellent followup and he responds quickly to emergencies.

These days, having cataract lens replacement procedure is a ‘piece of cake‘. It is painless, quick and quite effective in most cases. The eye patch comes off the next day and the world looks much clearer; continuing to improve even more in the next several days.

Nadia, the excellent and bilingual receptionist recently told me the best email is hers, recepcion.ajijic@gmail.com  Nadia is Mexican but grew up in Oregon. She understands timely responses to questions and emails and WILL get back to you when she says that she will. She says her goal is for nothing to get passed her.

Anybody add 2 and 2 and get 22?  Maybe look at some older posts on the subject.

Cedros, I had the trifocal lens "AT LISA TRI by Zeiss" implanted in both eyes within the last couple of weeks.  They are performing great ... I am at 20/30 correction now and am told it will get better as the eyes heal.

Maybe some here would also like to read the post dated February 18 entitled "Local Opthomologist makes BIG mistake".  This is real ... I know this person that received the wrong lens.  There is no excuse for this sloppy work ... if a doctor does not have a folder with the information to check before the surgery to make sure the lens is the correct one ... then DON'T DO SURGERY!  Don't take any kind of chance with someones eyes just because the "lab had never made a mistake before and sent the wrong lens".   I am sure there are people that are very happy with the work that has been done on their eyes but all it takes is being sloppy and you have several many in this community alone that have had their vision impaired permanently.  I know that doctors are human and can make mistakes but this kind of mistake was very much avoidable.

Also, be aware that shortshrink posted an almost identical post on April 18, 2014 ... yes, 2014.  It seems almost like an advertisement instead of a true recommendation ... however, I guess a person could think that a doctor that had been here for a couple of years or more could be considered "new" and want to tell the community at large about this new doctor more than once.
