LakeViews
Google street view data now covers the lake Chapala area. Download Google Earth or use google maps and drag out the little yellow human peg onto a street that turns blue, then street view will come up. For those that are not aware a google car drove around last year and now they have 360 degree photos of most of the streets in the area. Chapala, Ajijic, San Juan Cosala, Jocostepec are all now mapped photographically. Great resource. Fun to take virtual walks and do a little armchair exploration... Tony_In_Mexico
I used this feature to take a virtual tour of Chapala before moving down here nearly 2 years ago. Sorta freaked out the friends I'd met online who told me about this place and picked me up at the airport. I was like, 'Ok, and now there's a chicken place coming up on the left'. hkrause
I've been watching this for awhile... fun to see the progress as they add more streets. Awhile back they didn't have Ajijic, but it appears to be done now. Very fun to "drive" around and look at the area (hint: gorgeous lake views on the road east of Mezcala). As a suggestion, next time you need to give somebody directions or explain a location, locate it on Street View, pointing the correct direction to see the place you're referring to, then copy and send the link. From there, people can see what they're trying to find, and see it on the map... even get driving directions there from their current location. Especially handy for newer folks who might not know the reference locations some people use to give directions (not very helpful to tell people to turn at XYZ business if they don't know where that is). Very handy tool! Heather
