Yo1
Air may be safer with all the narco problems in the area. Although the Self Defense people have been cleaning up the area not far from the highway between Patzcuaro/Uruapan and the Ixtapa highway.
desafinada
We made that drive last week, driving to Zihua on Mar 1 and returning Mar 9. There was a lot of military presence on the return trip, mostly traveling the roads. Each toll booth had multiple police cars eyeballing every vehicle. Cheran had a barricade at the entrance manned by the autodefensas.
freshjuice23
Seems like it is rather uncertain traveling the roads in Mexico these days .... Not like the old days when we worried about potholes and where the next Pemex was......... .............an old timer.....

bmh
If there is that much police or military presence I say" fly" as you never know when someone wil get attacked or trigger happy. More guns makes me feel more nervous and less safe. A few years ago we got to a toll booth to see many policemen maybe 100 stopped and putting on their bullet proof jackets at a toll booth, we passed them and kept going hoping we would get home without any probles. I just would fly but everyone has their own tolerance for risks.
