fleeton
We just visited the new bakery café in Chapala called Rochatas. Be sure and visit - the baked goods are awesome and it is also a place to have coffee and breakfast.

elehne1
The Rochata's in Joco is on the Northwest corner of Hidalgo and Vicente Guerrero right across from the CFE office. They have wonderful sandwiches, cakes, breads and beverages.
fleeton
The bakery in Chapala is located on Hidalgo just before you reach the main street. It is on the right hand side.
jrod
And the one in Joco, at least, is THE place for special-event cakes (wedding, big birthday). It is the bomb!
vetteforron
Try the chocolate and cheese cake. It looks like checker board when cut. To die for....
elpind
We just got back from a very pleasant luch at Rochata's. We split a sandwich, had cold beer in a frosty mug and enjoyed a piece of key lime pie. The owner, Marko, was an extremely plesant man who spoke EXCELLENT english. His wife MariaTeresa was also there, also a very pleasant person. They are expecting their first child this Wednesday. Cindy was the preparer of food and she did a great job and was also very friendly. The prices were very reasonable, the place was extremely neat and clean and because of it location was quite cool in the early afternoon. Marco told us he used to help operate Cheese Cake Factories in the U.S. This place is a gem and we will be returning on a regular basis.
hensley
We have eaten there twice within a couple of weeks, we like their sandwiches and even bought an extra bread to take home and make a sandwich. We like the bread with the seeds. The carrot cake was also good.
MtnMama
Haven't tried the one in Chapala yet, but Rochata's in Joco makes what is arguably the best tres leche I have ever tasted. Anywhere!!!
More Liana
OK, MtnMama, you have thrown down the glove. I will see your Rochata pastel de tres leches and raise you one--but you have to come to Mexico City to try it!
moonhill
Elpind, was your pleasant lunch experience at the one in Joco or the one in Chapala? The staff and people on duty may vary from one to the other which would affect the experience.
elpind
We ate at the Chapala location. I stopped off there before just to take a peak and both times Marco was there. Don't know who was preparing the food. We may stop off tonight for desert and coffee!
Joyfull
Anyone know what the hours are at the Chapala location and if they are closed on Wednesdays. Went by today about 11am and they were closed.
kbleitch
I think someone involved here, maybe Marco's wife, was expecting a baby any day. Perhaps that's why they were closed.
maw7815
We went by today too and they were closed. There was a sign in the window stating they would be closed Wed & Thurs and reopening on Friday. We ate at the place Ruben is running a few doors down. maw

elehne1
We live in Joco and have had many of their wonderful cakes, breads and sandwiches. When our friend dies last year, we had them make wonderful hand decorated cookies from a photo ...everyone loved them...wonderful place!
texmextwo
Hey Maw, If you need a cake you need to contact Ruth at 376-765-7545, she is at the Monday market, does special events for Diane. . Pearl and some of her chocolates are in Mostly Chocolates in Ajijic. All proceeds go to the Hope House Orphanage. She does not do tres-leches, but anything else with fillings and incredible decorations. (She also delivers)

kbleitch
Maw - I know that Rochata requests three days advance on orders. Their items are delicious. I bought a tiramisu cake back in April.

Thanks for letting me know- it looks like I'll have to order from Soriana. I ordered a large sheet cake from Wal-Mart last year and they gave it to me uncovered. They said they didn't have anything to put it in! maw
More Liana
MAW, talk to Jaime at Mario's. His wife Alicia is a professional baker, trained at Wilton, and HAS to be better than Soriana. I suspect she'd be glad for the work and able to do it for you.
