If you are looking for a hair specialist that actually talks to you about your hair, listens to your desires, advises you on what she thinks from her experience, is an actual color specialist, and can cut hair like nothing you have seen (actually uses your cowlicks to enhance the hair cut instead of using them for an excuse for a bad hair cut) .... then make an appointment with Maria Teresa. Carretera Ote. #58, Suite J, Plaza San Juan, (Across the street from Telmex in Ajijic), 766-2228 at the salon or 333 404 5276 Cel.

This is a very attractive shop with wonderful comfortable chairs and equipment. It is to the back of the Plaza so the street noise and fumes are nil. Very nicely decorated and Maria Teresa keeps coffee ready if you desire. She has moved here from Arkansas in the last 2 months and opened just recently. I noted that her appointment book is already getting rather populated!

I do understand that 300 p is expensive, I can not attest to the price because I had the color repaired (removed the red) and re-colored along with a hair cut and style. Oh, and a special treatment for my very tender scalp that was a result of another hair dresser here using a very inexpensive product on my hair the last time it was colored. (I have been in mysery for 2 weeks with a sore and itchy scalp and Maria Teresa got rid of it) What I can tell you is that I paid the same price for these services as I did when going to Glorioso. The only problem was that I could never get a good color or a cut I liked at Glorioso even though I gave it about 8 months.

For the first time in 2 years I do not have hair from a cowlick sticking up in the crown and in the front of my head. I knew it was from the hair cut because I have always had them. However, including Gloriso, I have been to 3 of the most recommended hair salons and each one told me there was nothing they could really do ... my hair had obviously changed and I was going to have to put up with it like so many others that you see walking around with the same problem.

I may be different, but I would much rather pay more for my hair and feel good about the way I look. I can cut corners somewhere else. BTW, both my sister and daughter pay $75.00 for hair cut and style in a really good salon in the States. Of course, you can get a cut for $15.00 or less in the States also ... it just depends on if you are pleased with the results.

Luke is correct. If you are unhappy with every other stylist you have ever tried down here and you can afford to spend 300 pesos for a haircut and having a haircut you are happy with is a high priority for you than you happily pay 300 pesos -- even in Mexico. If there are enough people who feel that way, Maria Teresa will stay busy even with her high prices. If not, she will lower them to attract more business. I have paid anywhere from 70 to 250 pesos here. Most haircuts were at least okay, several were very good. The hair stylist I now use regularly charges 150 pesos.

It is high for here, but it sure is less than where I come from. I think what she is selling is her training as a stylist and colourist. I only need to go every 5 weeks or so, so 50 pesos does not make a lot of difference to me. I just want to see results. I will give her a try.

I had a cut a couple of days ago and was once again completely discouraged...the graduated A line bob isn't graduated high enough to give that poof in the crown that we all love. Well, after sharing some pictures with a niece hairstylist in the states, she gave me the correct terminology and I found some tutorials on youtube in hopes to possibly fix it myself. Whatever I was doing and learned 5 years ago just wasn't working anymore. Could you imagine that maybe product and technique was the problem? Yes, the cut still isn't exactly like the picture I took in but it's a heck of a lot better than before I watched the tutorial. So, thought I'd post the tutorial for some of our lakeside ladies who don't like to back comb and still need body in the crown. Places like Sally's Beauty Supply in Guadalajara sell the product that you may be looking for to give you fuller looking hair. I just didn't realize that what I was doing wasn't right for the style. I have extremely fine low density hair and now look like I have a full head of hair again...no shame. The gal in the tutorial has 3 colors in her hair, which make it even easier to follow her "lines" while styling. It's good enough that maybe I'll go back to have another haircut where I've been going but am willing to try another Vidal Sassoon stylist for sure! If the cut can be easier to style, less fuss, that's what I'm looking for. I think even the gal that's been cutting it would be shocked to see how good my hair looks because she can't finish style it for nothing...I always walk out anxious to get home and do it myself.

I called Maria Teresa early Saturday morning on her cell phone asking if she could see me before Christmas? A couple of hours later I text her and we texted back and forth. She decided to work today, Sunday, because she's so busy on Monday. 3 p.m. I went to my hair appointment today, the Sunday before Christmas. Let me say that she's going to be a hit here for sure...a keeper. Believe me, who doesn't love feeling a bit sassy after a great hair cut? I told my husband it was the best Christmas present I could have gotten this year. My hairstyle is a graduated A line bob. I said to her that I imagine she's cut a few of those haircuts. She sweetly replied that it's a very basic and first haircut taught at Vidal Sassoon. Well, I can't say for another style but this girl(yo) with low density fine hair has her sas back after that cut and is pretty much giddy about it. The cowlick, which most of the population of the world has one or two, is not a problem any longer. The salon is classy and well lit. She is very attentive. When a beautician is busy and has great hair herself, that's a real good sign.

The land line is being repaired tomorrow hopefully but by all means, call her cell phone. She's very pleasant, likes being punctual, bi lingual, kind, not pushy, loves working and definitely gifted at it. Best of all she understands fine hair. A few years ago, there was another Vidal Sassoon stylist that used to cut our hair for a small fortune per cut...there were plenty of us that were willing to pay that and it was bit of a hardship for me at the time but I went on occasion. We all had great hair then too! I know some of those same clients have found their way to Maria Teresa as she said she's been incredibly busy. I'll gladly pay 300 pesos for a cut from her.

Just to add a rave review: I had a long-overdue haircut by Maria Teresa at Panache today. I think she's really one of the skillful ones! Yes, at 300 pesos for a haircut, she's 50 pesos above the other top-priced stylists. But to leave her place feeling good about the cut--priceless!

This is a joke, right? "Apply mouse to front of hair"

My wife has been cutting my hair for the almost 4 years we've lived here and doing a rather nice job I might add. The stylist who used to cut my hair for the previous 8 years used to tell me my hair was the hardest cut he did - straight and fine. I was long past due for a cut and my wife said I needed to go to a pro as it was more (too long) than she could deal with and I should try Maria Teresa from all she'd read and heard. Clearly the best haircut I've ever had. Not only a very talented stylist but she is a warm and charming person as well.

Definitely recommend Maria Teresa, she's a genuine salon-trained stylist who doesn't come from the "One cut fits all" school of thought.

She took time showing current photo's, and discussing suitable styles, I knew I was in the hands of a professional.

Hope she doesn't become TOO popular!

I have been nothing but discouraged from all cuts and colors in this area - the main issue is inconsistency and not listening to whati want and need - I used to joke and say I would rather see a gynecologist than a hairdresser in this town - until Maria Teresa!!!! God! Not only does she listen but if you are slightly unhappy she corrects in a flash and DOES NOT CHARGE for this UNLIKE the other people in this town - she is gracious, adorable, and the BEST color so far for years - not brassy, soft, natural. She uses very gentle products - she knows clearly what she is doing - and it is the first time I am not hyperventilating in a chair! LOVE HER! three times in a row she has done a great job. Thank God she is here - now I don't have to wait for my every 3 month visit to Canada and pay $150 for a color - much more for a color and cut - crazy. So ifyou think 300 pesos is a lot for a cut - OMG.

Gringal, my hair is extremely short but I saw the results of another customer's long hair a couple of weeks ago and it was beautiful. I have never seen anyone walk out of her salon that did not look great ... color included ... long, short or sideways :)

Thanx! My hair is turning a tad too silvery for my liking......so the time is coming. I've seen some pretty gruesome results coming out of the local salons, so I'll go for "panache". Some of those coloring jobs resemble carrots or radishes. I'm hoping for almond or chocolate lab.
