joanne
How is the cost of nationalization figured? Which factors determine what it costs to nationalize your vehicle? Is it true that you must do this no longer than 6 months after arrival in Mexico or take it out of the country? Is a Mexican driver's license neccessary for nationalization? Once its nationalized is the importado null and void? Thank you.
Mad_Max
The cost of nationalization depends on the age of the car and the broker (and his location) that you use A mexican drivers license is not a requirement but there are other requirements Please take some time to read prior posts. To do this - go to search - enter "nationalize" and search all forums and some of your questions will have been answered.
AlanMexicali
http://www.aduanas-mexico.com.mx/claa/ctar/leyes/mec_precios_estimados.html#ane2 Check if your vehicle is listed here. Take 10% of the current value [list is in US dollars] on this list and add 16% IVA to this 10% duty and add $50.00 US fee and this is what ADUANA´s part will be for that vehicle. Add the fee the importer charges to do the work and what they charge for the $400.00 peso 15 day temporary transit permit ADUANA gives them and that will be the total. This list is not complete and some vehicles can be imported that are not on the list. 2007 and older until 1984 NAFTA built. Some importers charge up to a $800.00 US fee in Nuevo Laredo [fee for Expats there] and 2 importers, one in Nogales, Sonora and one in Mexicali, Baja, charge a $65.00 US fee to do the work. TJ importers usually charge about a $450.00 US fee. The fee includes an extra charge if they need a smog certificate which you will be charged for. In Nogales, Mx. and Mexicali no smog certificate is required.
dcstroker
Thanks for the information that I received from this board about going through Nogales. Just got back from nationalizing my 2000 ford ranger. Total cost was $930. Best part was that we were done in around 3 hours.
