Time to process application of Permanente

JKL

Recommended Posts

My husband I began the process of applying for permanente yesterday and were told we would be notified in approximately 6 weeks to come in for fingerprints in Guadalajara. After we do that it will take another 2 1/2 to 3 months to get the final documents! This is if we go through Guadalajara and not the local Chapala office, which we were told takes even longer. Is it really still taking that long to obtain the permanente documents?

(We are going through a facilitator, not doing it ourselves)

The time frames are all over the place. I'm going in today for fingerprinting after waiting 17 weeks in Chapala and submitting financials. My facilitator is now sending financials to Guad where they're handled faster and keeping the simple ones in town as recently it seems that 6 weeks to fingerprinting is about right at both offices now. At both places, however, it has been about 30 days until your card arrives unless something has changed recently with the card supplier. Since there's no way to know if your card has arrived, no notification process online for that detail, it's good that you have a facilitator to check every time his employee goes into Guad as he can check and bring your card back to his office for you. If you're doing it by yourself, you have to just go in and check in person once the theoretical waiting period is over...and if it's in Guad, that's a much more tedious process than just dropping by the office in Chapala a couple of times a week!

OMG I hope it doesn't take another 2-3 months after fingerprinting before this issue the visa. Maybe phxfunguy you can find out today when you get fingerprinted how long it will be before you get your visa.

Yesterday, Tuesday, we went to Morelia INM to apply for Permanente. We showed financials to qualify. We then paid all fees at our bank.

We were told to call them on Monday to see if they were ready to take our fingerprints on Tuesday (I could hardly believe this, but we'll see what happens.) After fingerprinting, our application, etc, would be sent to Mexico City for final review and approval.

We are hopeful.

Our process for Residente Permanente took seven weeks, from application to cards in hand, without financials in Guadalajara and using a facilitator for part of the process.

I did monitor our application on the INM website with our Pieza, Contraseña and NUT, to be sure that we wasted no time waiting for each step or for the facilitator to check and get around to calling us.

At the fingerprinting visit, the facilitator got stuck in traffic and did not appear, so we used our best Spanish and got through that process just fine.

We are thrilled that the apprehension, frustration of so much misinformation and the final wait are all finished.

No more INM visits for us ... Hooray!

Fingerprinting process took 30 seconds, the wait to do it an hour and fifteen minutes even with a facilitator today as they only had one employee working, so sometimes you do really need to take that novel along. They said that the papers go to Guad first for a signature, then on to Mexico City and the card vendor, so to expect the card in about 30 calendar days. With a facilitator they'll check each time for clients' cards and notify you it's at their office for pick up. On your own go in frequently to check after the 30 days are up...there's no other way to find out.

We applied at the end of March. It took 7 or 8 weeks to get our notice online that the application was accepted. When we went for fingerprinting, we were told it would take between three to 4 weeks. We checked after 2 weeks and it was there. We have done everything in Chapala without a facilitator. That was for permanent without financials.

I believe, if there is no problem, it takes the same time for termporal or permanent. At the moment there is something not right, that's when the delay comes about.

P.S. if you just want to go in to check if your card is ready, signal the lady and she'll let you check out the list to verify if your name is on it. Then you won't have to wait for nothing.

Good luck

Law says 20 days? Surely you jest, the law is only a suggestion. Reality is that average time for permanente with bank stmts has been 3 to 4 months in Chapala and 6 to 8 weeks in Guadalajara to be fingerprinted and then 1 to 3 weeks later for the card to arrive in GDL and 2 to 4 weeks later for the card to arrive in Chapala, there are ways to be fingerprinted in under 2 weeks.

Got to Morelia INM today about 11:15, waited for about 30 minutes for the fingerprint specialist lady to come to the fingerprint desk. We had to make a few, small, hand written changes to our Cartas de Solicitud, then she took our fingerprints. She was very pleasant.

We were told that our visas should be ready in 15 days. We have the telephone number to call to check on that. (We live 45 minutes' drive from INM Morelia.)

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. We don't recall ever when it was this easy. (Of course, we were very well prepared. We did our own facilitating.) ^_^

  • 2 weeks later...

I guess the above notes are mostly encouraging (but the whole mess is discouraging).

I applied 5 weeks ago Thursday (July 11th) in Chapala and everything was accepted without financials.

So far all I get online is "Ha sido asignado el tip de trámite." This is enough to cause me to lose sleep at night.

Should I go into the Chapala office and inquire or just wait it out? I keep imagining my papers are lost in a pile on someone's desk.

This is my 11th time doing this and it goes without saying how horrible this year is.

An update on my original post - It was three weeks ago today that we applied for Permanente (through a facilitator). We were notified today on-line to come in for our fingerprints to Guadalajara. We were surprised it only took three weeks, so we are keeping our fingers crossed the remainder of the process goes as well. Don't know if having FM-2's going into our 5th year has anything to do with it, but will keep you posted on how long the process takes us.

I do not understand the delay as likely the longest process most any one has heard of in all of Mexico. In SMA 8 days to finger print and the last 5 visas in 2 more weeks, so three weeks in total.

Locally they are lagging but in Guadalajara they are giving us good response time, 2 to 6 weeks with a 3 to 4 week average, bad side is you need to go to Guadalajara for fingerprinting but that pales in comparison to waiting many months, we are sending alot to Guadalajara for faster response and to lessen the workload locally, especially for our clients who have been waiting months so immigration can catch up, they seem to be catching up and are coming close to working on files from June.

We filed for our RP with Spencer and were ready for fingerprinting in 6 days. Went to Guadalajara for fingerprints last Friday and were told to come back in 10 days for our card. Whether it is ready in that 10 days remains to be seen. We had a 3 on the back of our FM3s so no financials were needed. Will post when we actually get the card to let everyone know how long it takes.

We went into Morelia INM today, got a number, took a seat. Within moments, agent Alan came over to us and asked if we'd come for our cards. He motioned us to his desk, and gave us our cards after we signed to them. Today's time spent in Morelia INM was less than 10 minutes. Amazing.

What? Alan didn't offer you a refresco or something???

In Morelia they give you a phone number to call so you can check for updates....and then they answer the phone! Soon after, they send out an e-mail invitation to see - if it's not too much trouble - whether or not you'd like to come in to pick up your new visa.

Amazing indeed.

Congrats on the new status and the great INM experience!

so did i-for RP with no financials - and it's been over a month - no fingerprinting yet. seems very inconsistent.
