Looking for different GP doctor

Recommended Posts

I believe you will find that Dr. Santiago can not give you a factura. Also, I had one of the most incorrect diagnoses there that I have had in Lakeside. A lot of people on this board have recommended Dra. Lupita but after 8 years here, we have resorted to traveling to Guadalajara when we have a problem other than colds, etc.

Nonsense. He gives us receipts that are accepted by Revenue Canada. He has never failed in diagnosing my wife and me. He has only been here a short time but has already saved lives with his diagnostic skills. He uses specialists properly as needed as well. I only had a problem with his choice of Orthopedic surgeon, but no big deal.

Receipts accepted by Revenue Canada are completely different than the facturas needed in Mexico. He misdiagnosed my friend also.

I think Luke gives good advice.

I third what Luke said. Go to Guad.

Names and addresses of GP recommendations in guadalajara would be appreciated.

Dr. Ernesto Eduardo Echeagaray, Justo Sierra No. 2460, Col. Ladron de Guevara, els: 333 615 4440, 333 615 4436, and 333 616 8895. His receptionist does not speak English so if you can not communicate with her or if you do not have a Spanish speaking friend to make an appointment, then either call his Cel: 044 333 661 6054 or email him at ernestoecheagaray@hotmail.com Dr. Echeagaray speaks English, he is an Internal Medicine and infectious disease specialist. I have always found, in the States as well, that an Internal Medicine physician is an excellent G.P. doctor. Also, Dr. Echeagaray charges $500.00 pesos instead of the $600.00 pesos we paid to one of the doctors here at Lakeside. I know others or less but you will find Dr. E is much worth it.

Dra. Lupita, along with an endocrinologist who practices at Integrity Clinic, sent me to Guad for a gammagram costing 1400 pesos. Didn't tell me I had to go off my medication first. When I called in to the clinic to question this ahead of the test, because the internet told me I should be off it, she said I should stay on it. So I stayed on it and did as I was told and then the results came back as inconclusive. The film showed nothing. The cover letter said that one of the reasons for this would be that the patient was still taking medication. Duh.... So sorry, I was not impressed. Also, when I told her and the endo that I had recently been following the Atkins Diet, neither one of them had any idea who Dr. Atkins was or what his diet was all about. That really surprised me since it's a pretty famous diet and has been around for 40 years or so.

I think there is no Doctor who you won't hear both positive and negative stories about, to be honest.

Chapala Med thru a partnership with another business issues Facturas. But like many other businesses here in Mexico, when paying with a Credit Card or getting a Factura, the customer must pay the IVA. Having to stand in line multiple times for hours at the SAT offices has drawn out the process for my business getting it's own. It will be done very soon.

I've paid the extra IVA it in the past when I've been asked to. The IVA due for an office visit at my office is about $6 U.S. dollars. I regret to learn that even $6 dollars is too much for some to pay for services I provide and the time and money I've invested in my 12 years of higher education.

Facturas have been an issue plaguing many and locally doctors a bit more as more people, for insurance reasons, are being asked to get facturas and doctors don't issue that many and the law has changed with regards to facturas and it is a bit of a production to go and do anything at the tax office, some appointments are taking a few weeks due to other government offices requiring people to have their FIEL or electronic signature. I was unable to issue facturas for 2 months last year resolving this mess for myself due to an error the tax office made. A factura is an official tax receipt and when you have them printed they have expiration dates and getting authorization for bar codes also has an expiration date and many people who do not issue them regularly sometimes find out that their authorization is expired as it isn't very common lakeside to issue facturas. A better practice would be to ask your doctor or anybody locally (few people in Chapala give facturas) prior to utilizing their services if they can give a factura if required in your situation. Some people partner up, for example I have given facturas to others who cannot due to their tax structure or their having to wait to have new authorizations or ones printed up.

It seems that everyone has an opinion about doctors: which is good, which is bad, who did right by them (or a friend) and who did wrong. In the end, all we each have is our own personal experience and how it turned out. Here is mine.

For too many months I have been experiencing debilitating fatigue. I was under the care of a trusted doctor here but nothing was helping. When the latest round of tests was ordered, I decided to instead seek a second opinion. On July 2, worried, a bit frightened, I went to see a new doctor (Dr. Santiago R Hernandez, M.D.), previous test results and sonogram in hand. After an examination and review of my medical record, the new doctor ordered tests for me to have in Guadalarjara the next morning. On July 3, after a series of EKGs, a major blockage to my heart was diagnosed, something previously not even suspected. I needed immediate cardiac surgery. Within 2 hours of my visit with the cardiologist, the surgery was performed.

I want to thank Dr. Santiago R Hernadez, M.D. for listening, taking a personal history, and recommending the tests, and dectecting the irregularity in the first EKG. I also want to thank Dr. Jose Pascual Salas Llamas, Cardiolgia Clinic e Interventcionista. Beyond being outstanding practitioners, they are compassionate men who see not a “patient” but a person.

Dr. Hernandez was with me at the hospital through the whole process. Even as the Catherization was being performed he was assuring and comforting me—a man he had first seen 24 hours before. That evening, Dr. Hernandez spent three hours sitting with me in my room. Dr. Salas Illmas also came to see me later that evening. Both doctors were back at 8 a.m. the following morning. I was released at noon. After a follow-up visit with the cardiologist at 6 p.m. I went home knowing that these two men saved my life. They also restored my faith and confidence. Forty-eight hours after first seeking my second opinion, I was home with my dog, my months-long struggle over.

Yes, my friend had a similar experience. Dr. Hernandez relentlessly pursued the answers.to his medical problems.and stayed with him, on his own time, throughout the ordeal.

He is in close congtact with the best specialists in Guadalajara as well. I definitely recommend him.
