blondie
I would appreciate directions on driving from Ajijic to Talaquepaque, the central artesan shopping area. Also any parking suggestions and locations would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance, Blondie
stuphel
Just drove there this week, so the directions are still clear in my head: Take the highway to the airport and on to Guadalajara. Not long after you pass the airport (about 10 minutes) you'll start seeing overhead highway signs dividing the lanes into the directions they'll eventually veer off to...signs indicating Tlaquepaque are over the middle or second lane to the right, mostly. Just stay in that marked lane. The signs will get more specific as you get closer to Tlaquepaque. Eventually, you'll see a sign posted both "Tlaquepaque" and "Avenida Ninos Heroes" which is in the right lane. Take this lane, and you'll end up exiting right. You are now on "Avenida Ninos Heroes" in Tlaquepaque. Take this road for 6 or 7 long blocks. When you get to Calle Juarez, you will see a large yellow building, with a giant billboard on top marked Elektra. Turn right onto Calle Juarez. You should be able to park (meter parking) anywhere on Juarez, though I would suggest going a block or so along the street. You need some coins, but it is inexpensive to park. It is a four-hour meter, though you can top it up as it runs down. There are some nice stores on Juarez. To get to the pedestrian shopping area, called Calle Independencia, walk left one block along any of the side streets off Juarez. The pedestrian mall runs several streets, parallel to Juarez, and has lots and lots of stores. It is not a stressful drive, and you will enjoy your day window or real shopping. giltner68
If you have "out of state (NOB)" plates you don't need to feed the parking meter, it's free. If you don't find parking along Juarez, continue past the large restaurant square on your left and in the next block look carefully for a parking lot on your right, it's convenient to walk back from there.
