I could say the same about several of the other Doctors here at Lakeside. Where did the Nice and Sweet come from?

The nice and sweet came about because Dr. Cevallos is said to be those things. And that's fine if that is what one wants in a doctor. My comment is that these two very nice traits don't always add up to competence. In this case, what I said I thought was clear without being specifically critical. I've had experience, too, with this doctor and with this clinic's latest orthopedist. As we know, only high praise is allowed, it seems, on this kind of post and that is really not fair when a negative one exists. I was being discreet. You're entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine.

Lexie, of course you are entitled to your opinion, no one said you were not. The OP asked for a recommendation for a good Doctor, not who we would not use or had a bad experience with. I have had very bad experiences with several of the Dotor's here but that is not what the OP was asking for.

Let it go, please. I recommended caution.

i recommend caution w/most drs. everywhere. if its something you are not sure of, get a second opinion also if its a new condition, or a serious one. go on the internet as well.

What I have garnered from all the posts is that there are some good doctors there but one has to find a doctor they are comfortable with. Doctors are not infallible - my own doctor here in Vancouver of 18 years made a huge mistake that almost cost me my life - so as some of you mentioned - a second opinion may be the way to insure all is well....I think too we have to judge how we are feeling and if results are failing to reveal any satisfactory results then further action on our part is required. Good doctors do make mistakes but it doesn't necessarily make them bad doctors. Thank you all for your input. Regards,

Greetings Flowers.

Thank you for your voice of reason. This is a small town and there are so many opinions... I love my doctor, and others have had a negative experience with him. You are absolutely correct that all humans are infallible, and you need to find someone you feel comfortable with.

There are quite a few good doctors here and any number of good specialists. What I can guarantee is that you are likely to experience a level of compassion and caring that is unheard of NOB. Even when there have been occasional challenges, I have been very happy with the care I have received here.

Welcome to Lakeside!

Thank you so much, I am looking forward to the move and the incredible weather there - I think that in itself will be healing!

  • 4 weeks later...

Dr. Santiago Hernandez 331 605 9645, 765-7777, younger, perfect English, studied and worked in hospitals in the US and Mexico with licenses to pratice in both countries, prepares electronic medical records so your history is always available.

Last time I looked at his Linkedin Profile, he said that he was in the "process of acquiring U.S. medical credentials." So yes, he worked in hospitals in the US and Mexico according to Linkedin and has a license to practice in Mexico.

Dr. Leon has been my doctor for many years and kept me alive a number of times and at all hours. However Dr. Santiago Hernandez who recently opened an office here in the new Medical Center on the way into Chapala has taken care of friends of mine and they are very pleased with him. Young, well educated in the USA, perfect English, and possessing excellent skills and follow-through.

I have a friend who has something seriously wrong with her, based on sky high blood pressure for no particular reason, since she's slim and a regular exercise devotee.

Doctor #1 put her on blood pressure medication and told her to lose weight (WHAT). That didn't help. Her friends said..."get a second opinion". She went to a cardiologist with much the same results. Happily she went to a different cardiologist and it looks like she'll finally find out what's really wrong, get some good treatment and get healthy again.

Moral: If you don't feel right about a diagnosis, don't hesitate to get a second or third opinion.

I like my doctor, who is caring and tries hard, but sometimes I, too, look further for the answers.

The point was that the poster quoted in subject thread posted incorrect information.

The question comes to my mind, why would you bother to justify your negative post by using outdated "linkedin" information.

Do you know Dr. Hernandez and is there something you wish to tell us in a more forthright manner, perhaps?

I know both Spencer and Santiago and Spencer is correct in that Santiago is licensed to practice medicine in both countries.

I have a friend who recently used his services to great satisfaction and will continue to do so,is my understanding.

I didn't say that he was not licensed in the US. I am saying that he published the information that he was not licensed in the US on Linkedin. That Linkedin entry that I saw was last updated November 2013 2012. I also emailed it to a friend who was looking for a doctor - and was quite happy with his service. I assumed the information that Dr Santiago posted on Linkedin was correct.

I was looking for a Doctor in Ajijic last year and Dr Lastra was recommended on this board... he is excellent.
My previous Doctor always charged me $800 per visit.
  • Dr. Lastra on (Calle Constitution 766-1740)

The 800pesos number is extremely high for a GP and most specialists do not charge that

"November 2013" has not yet arrived and nowhere on his November 2012 linkedin does it say that he was not a practicing medical doctor in the United states in Chicago. That sir, would require a license.

Is there any particular reason why, that you are trying to falsely discredit him, sir?
