Lake Chapala Crime
Comments from a recent crime victim: People need to know that a wall safe isn't safe, since they just hammer through the wall and gain access by the side. Perhaps a safe that is recessed in the floor would be more difficult to access. http://lakechapalacrime.com/ajijic/Ajijic0116_2013_2.php
cbviajero
Mrbeardog,IMO safes are not a good idea, the burglars will just take it with them and open it at their leisure.
gogirl
I know someone who is selling one. It can be securely bolted to the floor.
Fox
IMO a Safe is only ( SAFE) if you install it yourself. We know some friends who had their safe installed by a contractor and within a week it was removed from the floor with a crow-bar. Just sayin!! rufus
A safe needs to be heavy enough that it cannot be removed from the premises. Also, you should conceal it so that it is not seen easily. Put it behind a false wall or way back in a closet full of clothes. You don't want plumbers, cleaning staff or gardeners knowing about it. They talk. Also, make sure it is delivered after dark in the dead of night, and make sure it is a very quiet operation. If burglars hit your house and find a safe, they may just wait for you to come home and to open it for them. You don't want them cutting on you. Chooch57
I am told not to let anyone know that you purchase a safe, reason is it gives the young impression to workers that goes in your home thinking that you have money. Anyway a safe is good thing to have as long it is secure and well hidden.
Mrbeardog
Thanks everyone for all the info. I did go to Chapala and look at a nice big safe that a robber probably couldn't move. However, after all the input about moving it in during the dead of night with no moon and the necessity to have the people that move it be blindfolded, and the possibility that if I get robbed and if they find the safe that they might just wait for me and force me to open it..... I am rethinking the whole thing. Maybe a moat and a dragon.
