Mainecoons
Was privileged to attend Galen's finale at Four. As always, Galen was delightfully entertaining and talented. First time I've ever heard him sing, he was pretty good at that too. Dale on the drums is always a treat as were the rest of the group. Unlike many places around town including the one across the street from us, the music was NOT painfully loud and a nuisance to the neighbors. Some folks seem to confuse volume with value when it comes to music, not Galen and his group thank goodness! At the same time, we continue to be underwhelmed by Four. The wait staff seems poorly trained and disorganized. We had no idea who was actually waiting our table. Despite the fact that they've had a number of Galen's sold out shows to learn the ropes, it took nearly 40 minutes to get two starters, which were OK but not world class. This restaurant could sure use some wait staff training a la Tango. Frankly,weI think Roberto's has better atmosphere and near equally good food for one third the price. Not to mention the barely OK house wine at 65 pesos per marginal pour. Our impression of this restaurant continues to be that it trades more on snob appeal and neither the food nor the service approaches the level its elevated prices should dictate. That's our opinion, your mileage may vary.
artsnob
Wait till the snowbirds leave, because most of the locals will not pay those prices for so-so food that no one ever raves about here on this forum
RVGRINGO
I could listen to Galen and Dale for a very long time; but, never at 'Four'.
sm1mex
We support the local restaurants with good prices and good food like Tony's and fona Doña Lolas, Tango, etc.. Great service, great food, low prices.
RVGRINGO
We like that list of reliable restaurants and add Los Cinco Potrillos for really good food, especially the arrachera and the burrito plates. When there are four of us, we almost always get the large mixed grille with all the fixings.
AWC
To hear Dale and Galen you pretty much have to hit their show and pay the price, well worth it every time. Number 4 isn't at the top of our list for food, and especially not cocktails or wine, however it isn't always about the low prices and good food, sometimes its just about the ambiance and the company. Los Cincos, Dona Lola, Tonys and even Tango are places I can decided at 6 to head out to in my everyday clothes, Number 4 we tend to make a little more effort for which makes it a little more special which makes us open the purse a little wider. They all have their place and time.
Musicdoc
How very thoughtful and kind you are. We want to thank you for taking the time to write - and for the wonderful things you said about us. I have started a list, beginning with your names. Sometime in late Summer or early Fall - we're going to invite you over for botanos and drinks and a concert where you help pick the music. You might as well hear something you like. Rob and Ron said they would be happy to join us. Thanks again for your support. Galen and Dale
tigerlily
Galen, you are the only reason we've gone to Number 4! It's a real shame that they can't get their act together with the food and the staff. Tango has perfected the formula. The owner of Number 4 should "take a page from their book!" crjd
It's performers like Galen and Dale who can, as entertainers be best described as a "class act" and as individualsas "genuine and gracious people". It's too bad that even with their talent and generosity they couldn't overcome the simply terrible reputation that No. 4 has developed. I cannot recall reading very many "positive" comments about the restaurant despite it being the "best looking restaurant in town". However, I well remember a lot of negative adjectives that have been applied to every single aspect of this restaurant.......in fact far too many to count! It's sad, if only more people would express their truthful comments (or would have long before now) perhaps this particular restaurant would not have "fallen off track". There are many of us who wanted this restaurant to survive and prosper as the entire concept, at the outset, was exciting and what many of us had hoped would be a long lasting and welcome addition to a not very exciting dining community.
