fikatprice
We are moving to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca in February 2012. Our car, which we will drive to Oaxaca, is Jalisco registered. Do we need permits to drive interstate? Will we need to change the registration when we get there? Or can we keep it registered in Jalisco until it's time to renew? Any tips or advice welcome, thanks in advance!
Intercasa
Changing plates can be a royal pain, especially if it is to Jalisco plates. No problem driving around just be careful if passing through Mexico City with their rotating no driving days depending on license plate numbers / letters. RVGRINGO
Be sure you have the complete history of the car; factura, pedimiento, all paid receipts for 'tarjeta de circulacion', and then go to the office of the recaudadora in Chapla, on Juarez, and ask if there is anything else you might need to register in another state. You might also ask the same question in Oaxaca; perhaps through a friend who is already there, so you can get the documents here, in advance of your move. bmh
No need to drive through Mexico any longer, just take the Arco Norte going down and ask that same question in Oaxaca as it is where you could have questions or problems.
