Orygun Duck
Can anyone provide any updates on the situation in Tenacatita? The last postings on the board were from August and reported a take-over by the alleged "owners," dispersal of the local population and closure of one of the nicest beaches in this part of Mexico. Has there been any resolution of the conflicting claims and/or reopening of the beach?
Marley's Ghost
As of two weeks ago, access to the beach was still closed. There is a double chain link fence across the road complete with armed guards and signs stating that it is private property. We turned around, seeing no reason to question the guards on the state of affairs.

What's La Manzanilla like?
tomgates
The nice thing about the beach in La Manzanilla is that there is no sharp shorebreak in the surf as there is in Melaque and Barra. That said, I don't find the roughly 1 1/4 extra hours it takes to get there from Manzanillo to be worth it.
Marley's Ghost
The beach at La Manzanilla is really quite nice, providing you are not put off by the slightly dark sand. This is a very small place with not much to do if you are looking for more than beach time. We recently stayed at Casa Maguey which has direct access to the beach. The rooms are quite large with complete kitchen facilities and would be suitable for a long stay. Martins is probably the best place to eat and is a short walk from Casa Maguey. www.casamaguey.com

Google both lots of info for those areas. Goodluck, Fox
sparks
Tenacatita is kinda open. Fences and police are still there but you can enter minus your camera and possibly ID. The word is the paper work is in the works to allow beach access to all but the "new owner" gets his big slice. All palapa restaurants have been torn down but new cement pads are being built for something. It's on it's way back but in a different form. Melaque has a calm beach on the west end and La Manzanilla beach is rocky and polluted. Boca de Iguanas at least has a nice beach and clean water .... but no place to stay. Immediately adjacent to Boca de Iguana is Coconuts By The Sea, a great place to stay and enjoy this beautiful beach. http://www.coconutsbythesea.com/
