jkgourmet
We've done some viewings of rental and for sale properties here in Lakeside, and on our way home to Arizona, we'd like to have see what Mazatlan has to offer. anyone have a suggestion relating to residential area's to consider and a realtor we might contact? (Please keep in mind that I don't drive in Mexico, so being able to walk places makes a big difference.) Of course, restaurant recommendations are VERY helpful, too! :)
cedros
Maybe you will get more answers if you post on a Mazatlan forum; http://whatsupmaz.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MazInfo/
Mainecoons
Remember that Mazatlan is VERY hot in the summer! But maybe not to an Arizonan.

I HAD looked for forums myself before posting here, but most were not very active or contained more spam about viagra and dating sites than I cared to skim through. The what's up site is some kind of forum software that is just a mess and I was hoping to find something cleaner and easier to search (like chapala.com has provided). The yahoo group WAS new to me - thank you for that link.

jkgourmet
Hawaii That's true. Sadly, I'd have to sleep on the beach as the cost of food would eliminate my income. (Let's not even get into a discussion about real estate costs!)
lorilee
We spent a couple of weeks last winter in Mazatlan. There is a wonderful centro district with lots of rental options. Walking is easy within the area to all the markets and stores you would need. An easy walk to the malicon as well. The malicon in Mazatlan is quite long and offers a variety of resturants, shops, grocery stores, liquor stores etc. We very much enjoyed our time there. We decided to purchase Lakeside instead because of the hot humid weather in Maz. There are alot of gringo's in Maz central. Like Lakeside, there are lots of different fracc communities in the area but you would need a car to get around. Little golf cart type taxis are everywhere and cheap making getting around the city easy. Hope this helps. Good luck. Lorka
Jeannie
Is the cost of electricity in Maz cheaper than here at Lakeside? Are they compensated due to high use of air conditioners in the summer months? I had heard this was true and if so would make Maz an alternative. Also, how does the salt water/air affect computers? Yes the electricity costs are subsidized by the state during the hot summer months. Quite a bit actually. The salt air can affect any electrical equipment over time, but a lot depends on whether you live right on the beach or inland. Even a block or two makes a difference. If you use the air conditioner, should be okay. From Nov. to June is very nice here. We leave for 2 or 3 months during the summer, but have stayed during the summer occasionaly. Mazatlan is a large working city, lots to do and definitely a younger crowd. A lot of cultural events. At least 3 main areas for expats., centro, Golden Zone and Cerritos. All have their pros and cons.
