John Shrall
I'm considering the purchase of a second car that is Mexican plated. Do I need a Mexican driver's license to legally drive it?

jimmiller
Hertz and Avis wouldn't be renting many cars to foreign tourists if a Mexican license were required to drive a Mexican-plated car. We have a friend in the US-a US citizen-whose mother was a Mexican resident in SMA. The lady died and left her Mexican-plated car to her son. The guy wants to get rid of the car but cannot legally sell it because he is a non-resident foreigner and not allowed to own it. So every year they renew the registration in the dead lady's name. this has been going on for seven years, nobody can figure out what to do. Maybe the rules vary according to the state? RVGRINGO
I guess he needs an FM3/2 and a copy of the death certificate and will leaving him the car. It shouldn't be difficult then.

He can sign her name, albeit illegally, on the title..just think of it as the local cops giving you a ticket for an infraction you did not commit
