Los Molletes Restaurant

Just West of Roberto's on the carretara is a new restaurant which we tried for lunch today, and really enjoyed. Molletes are open faced sandwiches made with bollillo rolls. One order consists of 4 roll halves with various toppings. The topping is put onto the bread, then topped with cheese, and put into the oven to melt. You can order half and half if you want, so 2 halves have one topping and the other 2 halves have another. An order varies in price between 35 and 58 pesos depending on your choice of topping. There are also some sweet ones you can eat for breakfast. Lunch for 4 including one order each and 3 beers and 1 iced tea came to 265 pesos plus tip. Their hours are Tues through Saturday 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, then they close for siesta and open again 5:30 pm to 10pm. On Sundays they open only in the morning from 8:30 to 1:30 pm, and on Monday they are closed.

Give them a try and see what you think. The ones we tried were the poblano chili and corn, the ham with olive oil and tomato, the chicken breast with chipotle sauce, and the pork leg with soft red chili. We really enjoyed it. The waiter said in the evening there would be a special one made of salmon. I'm not sure if that varies from night to night or is the same every night.
