The Ajijic Fishing Club went to Christiana Park on April 30th to provide some fishing fun for kids attending "Kids Day" at the park. Hundreds of kids attended and a lot of them came to us and spent some time catching plastic fish in a few inches of water. It doesn't sound very exciting, but even after we ran out of prizes, the kids kept coming, smiling, laughing. We probably won't be remembered by the kids, but the parents thanked us . Possibly they will be Fishing Club members some day.
Hey all. We are currently in Gdl. We have a 17yr old daughter. We are exploring our options for long term. Gdl is great but not quite we were planning. Are there families with younger kids or Teens in your area? As summer approaches we are hoping she can volunteer also. In the US she spent some of the weeks volunteering in VBS helping teachers. Hoping she can find some similar opportunities. Forums and facebook groups make it seem like it is mostly just retired folk in the area. I appreciate any info.
We arrived just less than a month ago and we've been trying to find activities for our kids (ages 12 and 5) to participate in - both to get exposure to the language and culture, and to have other kids their age to play with. So far, we haven't found much. We did attend the art class at LCS last Saturday, but I don't think just that is going to provide enough interaction for the kids. We are homeschoolers, but we're here for another 5 months and would really like to get our kids "out there" to learn the language and have some fun. We're somewhat open to trying a school, but we don't have a car and didn't consider private school into our budget for our trip here. We would also need to pull our kids out before the school year ended and would like to take them out when we go on day excursions to other cities, etc. (I don't know how flexible Mexican schools are about that sort of thing). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! HeatherDawn
